2020.09.10 10:37 thearticulategrunt Love at first sight, for lack of a better term. XXL

Love at first sight for lack of a better term. A lot of people have never experienced, don't have a frame of reference for or just don't believe in any kind of love at first sight. That kind of feeling that comes over you the first time you see someone, the first time you stand in their presence, where the rest of the world just seems to melt away and not matter by comparison. The kind of feeling where even if you never see them again, you never forget where you were, what was going on, how they looked, what they sounded or smelled like.
As I said, some have no reference, don't believe in and will even belittle those who have/do/believe in it. I do though and I bring this up tonight because I caught myself in having said something that may have seemed out of character or just weird in the (smugglers in Jordan) story a few days ago. You see, I've experienced it 3 times in my life, the first 2 did not work out but the 3rd felt the same way and is my wife of almost 18 years. The 2nd though, is/was Powski I mentioned in the Jordan story.
Now Powski is obviously not her real name though it is a part of it. I chopped and combined her long, complicated Russian name down for the story. Powski got cut down from -----pow------ski. Now, I have never had an issue finding something to admire in the appearance of almost any lady but I definitely had a "type". Blond or redhead, short though not necessarily "petite", not flat, some curves and at least a little cushion to the rear and/or hips. My wife teases that I have a thing for Dwarves and Halflings. Powski on the other hand was easily 6'3", a brunette, was not flat but was otherwise build like a professional body builder. She was an MP and spent at LEAST an hour a day in the gym keeping in top shape and getting in better shape.
You see I had a couple buddies who were MPs. Powski was in a different company from my buddies though. I was with my buddies at the gym when she showed up with some of her squad mates. One of my buddies made a kind of "hey some of 2nd shift" type of comment and I turned to look. For whatever reason, it was like I could feel my entire body relax and exhale. The noises of the gym just faded or didn't matter as I just watched her walk across the gym...then stop in front of me and snap fingers in my face.
"Hey you broke or drunk or something?" I snapped back to reality with a mental "fuuuuccck" and managed to recover with a kind of "no sorry, brain dead type of tired. Must have just locked onto movement and it was you. Very sorry." She shrugged and kept going. My buddies gave me so much shit about how I was supposed to be 'so smooth' and how "that was some embarrassing shit". We carried on and finished our workout but I couldn't get her out of my mind.
I confessed it to Howler, one of my MP buddies maybe a week later, that I just could not get her out of my mind. He looked at me like I was insane. Commented on how she was a powerhouse, didn't give anyone the time of day past what rank and duty assignment mandated and was a major badass in a couple martial arts or something. He gave me a smile though and said "well if you are suddenly into pain and shit I'll lend a hand" and he did. He got me her unit info, a few other minor facts and most importantly, when she normally worked out.
First time at the gym when she actually showed up I made a point of apologizing. That "no matter how spaced out and brain dead I was staring at her had been completely inappropriate and I was sorry." She just kinda blew it off with a "whatever don't do it again" and I thanked her and told her if she needed anything I owed her one for being such an idiot so just let me know. She said she would "if there were not enough punching bags some day and she needed a workout target." Yeah, ouch. I kept up going to the gym more frequently, it was good for me anyway after all but I kept my distance whenever she was there at the same time from that point on.
Over the next, maybe 6 months, we would both be in the gym maybe once a week at the same time but we also kept running into each other on training operations. Things like the MPs would be training on check point inspections and us Infantry grunts would be on security and response and somehow, we wound up on the same cite. Another time I was in the BOSS program (Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers, a moral program) and had done some great stuff for my unit so my CSM started sending me to advise other BOSS reps and help their units out so there I am one time with another BOSS rep going over issues with his unit's laundry room and in she walks with a basket of laundry to wash, looks at me, meets my eyes turns and leaves. NOTHING I was planning or trying to do but I started feeling like a freaking stalker so I decided to drop the gym time and start going when Howler had told me, all those months prior, that her regular duty shift was so there would be no chance of running into each other. Just trying to ensure space and eliminate contact. Especially since, even though I had dated other girls during this time I always had Powski somewhere in the back of my mind eating at me.
Just my freaking luck I walked in, first gym session on the new schedule, no buddies with me and there she was. Fuck it I'm out. I just turn and go to leave.
"Hey grunt." (shit)
"Yeah Powski?"
"I need a partner. You said call on you. Lets go." Now, I loved that gym. Great facilities to include wrestling mat rooms. 2 if memory serves, so troops could practice hand to hand and such even if it was raining outside. We went into one and took a corner area. Now I wish this was not a stereotype story line. I'm good in a fight. I've usually been good at handling myself. We squared up though, made ready and jointly said go. Now, I know what happened, she lunged low and rotated to the inside, brought her shoulder and upped left arm up into my belt line grabbing my left hip with her left hand. As I turned to try and get a grasp on her I got her right arm as her right hand caught hold of the base of my neck/shoulder. She then straightened up, extended her left arm while pulling down with her right hand and flipped me ass over shoulders to slam me down on my back on the mat. Keeping the grip on my shoulder she then flipped me onto my stomach, braced a foot against my right inner thigh, dropped her butt onto my back, pulled my left leg up to her and twisted. Yep I was out. I'm not sure what I slapped but I reached back and rapidly slapped her more than the 3 to tap out while crying uncle. She hopped up and so did I. We readied again and launched again except this time she straight out clothes lined me and slammed me back onto my shoulders. I just hollered "good" and stuck my hands out to the sides and asked "another?" We got up, got ready and I had a plan. This time, as she came in, I went backwards. I figured grabbing her I could use our momentums to pull her across over me then roll to the top and it worked. It would have worked better if she had not kept her grip and kept rolling pulling me back overtop and slamming me into the wall with the point of her elbow in the cup of my shoulder and her forearm braced across my collar. I'll be straight, we went on for a few more but I lost every one. I couldn't manage a single pin or anything against her. It was freaking embarrassing. She finally seemed frustrated, just said "thanks" and we went on about our independent workouts.
Sadly, she was waiting in the parking lot when I went to leave and the drama just got worse. Clear of other ears she straight out asked what my issue was, how I found out about her new schedule and why the hell I was there.
Fuck it.
I told her straight out that I had no idea that she would be there. That I had changed my schedule to get away from her and give her space. That no matter what I did she seemed to randomly pop back up. That I was just a specialist like her. I had no way to influence where my squad got put during the training exercise so had no way to influence whether to be on the same check point or to even know if she would be there. That yes while I was in the BOSS program that my CSM had sent me to help their incompetent BOSS rep and how the hell was I to know she would come down with her laundry while we were doing the inspection. Did she even know we were doing an inspection? I rattled off a couple more such instances.
Then I screwed up, I kept talking.
"Even if I had wanted to I have no idea how to arrange things like that. I've actually been trying to keep my distance because you eat at my mind and my sanity."
"What?" She looked more annoyed than confused. Aaand, I kept talking without thinking.
"Well, truth be told, I can't get you out of my mind. Ever since that first day. I've tried but you seem amazing. I've tried to give you space, I've tried to create space, to stay away, but no matter what I do it's like you keep getting shoved back in front of me. I finally changed my schedule figuring that it would completely eliminate the possibility of running into each other here but OH NO, first freaking time on my new schedule and there you are. Fuck. Fuck it. I love this gym but I'm out. I'll stick to my Brigade gym. If you want to run into me you can go there. I'll take the lower quality gym to create the peace for both of us." and that was where I stopped talking as she stepped in and gave me a rabbit jab straight to the gut knocking my wind half out of me.
"If you find a girl amazing, you should just say so." and she turned and started walking away. I found a little air and had to throw the dice.
"So dinner? My treat."
She didn't even look back. "Fuck no." No joking or jovial tone, just a flat "fuck no".
Now, to my credit or to my stupid, I never went back to that gym except for when it was scheduled training. I did stick to my Brigade gym. It was like the fates changed their minds too, we no longer ran into each other anywhere else either.
It was probably 4 or 5 months later when I got selected for the program working with the Jordanian military I talked about in (It's a basic matter of respect) which of course led to my selection in actually going to Jordan. Powski, obviously, got chosen to go too so yes, she was there for the 2 weeks I think we spent around the Jordanians stateside. We passed each other at least twice a day, would always make eye contact and I would always smile and nod my head slightly but nothing was ever said.
So, now you all know, why in (smugglers in Jordan), I was so gleefully delighted when she, not anyone else in the group, when SHE took the risk to fetch my dumb ass from danger and showed concern over my possible injuries. Even if she did stick a menstrual pad on my head.
Okay, feel free to point out and explain different points where I was an idiot or whatever.

2020.09.04 23:23 globalwp [CONFLICT] Avenging Al-Quds: Operation HOTAMAH

“The UAR shall not stand idly as the Zionist entity slaughters our people, destroys our sacred sites, and tramples upon our honor. The UAR has launched a strike on the Zionist menace to punish them for desacrating the sanctity of the holy city. Jerusalem is to be free and open to people of all faiths. We can no longer tolerate fascism in the region. The last vestige of colonialism in the Middle East shall soon be eradicated. Let it be known that the UAR will fight for what is right, and we will do what we must to liberate Palestine once and for all. Israel will immediately withdraw from the occupied territories, and the lands will be restored to their rightful owners. Be warned, for our use of nuclear weapons was limited, and intended to reduce the blood shed by this war. We do not aim to eradicate the Jewish people, who are innocent bystanders born into fascist rule, but we seek to eradicate the power structures which have led to the oppression and subjugation of an entire nation, culminating in a direct attack and insult on both Arabs and Muslims across the world. Should we not act quickly, St. James’s Cathedral, and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre would be next. Be warned, we will no longer tolerate such behaviour, and while we do not wish to harm civilians, we warn Israel that any nuclear retaliation would be grounds for a ten-fold response. The Falcon has awakened, and now soars with the Phoenix.” - Prime Minister Al-Zaidi, hours after the initial attack
The UAR, already in a state of high alert, and already mobilized due to the previous Iranian war, can afford to quickly mobilize its troops and move forward, providing it with a decisive advantage over its Israeli counterparts. The “military exercise” was but a ruse, and the UAR now seeks to liberate Palestine and establish a one-state binational solution by force, ending the Israeli occupation of lands stolen almost 90 years ago.
The destruction of Al-Aqsa and the planned “temple” has galvanized public opinion to a point where most muslims would consider joining the fight against Israel. It will thus be easy to recruit additional auxiliary units both from Palestine and from the Islamic world as a whole. As plans enacted by Jordan, Egypt, Turkey, and the UAR, come to fruition, one statement is becoming a reality, Jerusalem will be freed!

Opening Phase - Operation Hotamah

Woe to every backbiter, slanderer,
Who amasses wealth and counts it over and over.
He imagines that his wealth will make him immortal.
Nay! he shall surely be cast into the "hotamah".
And what should make thee know what the "hotamah" is?
Allah's fire as preserved fuel,
Which will leap suddenly on to the hearts.
It is locked up in outstretched pillars to be used against them. 1 - Quran 104-2
The Land-Based Missiles
With troops deployed in Jordan, and on the Zionist-UAR border, the UAR is poised to make a surprise first strike on the enemy’s most prized possession. Their nuclear weapons.
Israeli nuclear weapons are located mainly in one site, warehouses near Sdot Micha. While they may be potentially rated against conventional airstrikes, they would be unable to withstand a direct hit from a nuclear weapon, let alone a ground penetrating nuclear bunker buster. Israel’s other nuclear weapons are located on submarines that would presumably be located thanks to the UAR’s established hydrophone network in Lebanon.. Thus the main objective would be to overwhelm the enemy’s air defenses.
This will involve 5 different sources and directions forcing them to defend territory in 360 degrees in addition to a suter attack by EC-130 ELINT to paint the false picture of a clear sky prior to the attack:
Between the 75,000 rockets (including precision munitions), Hamas’s missiles, 1,500 cruise missiles, 2,000 ballistic missiles, and 200 JASSMs, it is highly unlikely that the Israelis will manage to intercept specifically the 5 INTIQAM-2TAAs that would be dropped on the area. A few cruise missiles alone are hard to intercept if taken by surprise, let alone thousands. The fireball would likely vaporize the neighbouring moshav of Sdot Micha, as well as Sdot Micha Airbase. The largest settlement that would be affected by the detonation would be Bet Shemesh which would suffer from the shockwave. The Negev Nuclear Research Centre in Dimona would similarly be targeted as well. This would effectively render Israel nuke-less and unable to retaliate.
The Sub Hunt
The UAR Hydrophone network should reveal the locations of the submarines in Israel’s control. The UAR will deploy its fleet of ASW aircraft and ships to hunt the subs that are located to prevent them from firing. This will occur simultaneously with the attack to bring the UAR’s sub hunters within range to destroy the Israeli submarines within minutes of the initial salvo firing, faster than the time it takes for the news of a nuclear strike to travel to the 5 isolated subs.
Knowing vaguely where they are, ASW helicopters can be used to pinpoint their direct locations and thus allow them to be neutralized by torpedo fired either by helicopter, submarine, or surface the Sea Hunter Autonomous ASW ship designed specifically for this purpose. The limited range of fire of the enemy’s cruise missile systems used for nuclear weapons delivery dramatically reduce the search range. The following units will be deployed for this purpose:
Sub Hunter Group 1:
3 Arleigh Burke Flight II Destroyer 3 Ticonderoga Class Cruisers 2 Sea Hunter Autonomous ASW Ship 1 Sea Fighter LCS 5 Silorsky ASW Helicopter 1 Los Angeles Class Submarine
Sub Hunter Group 2: (First searches Tiran, then moves back to the Med.)
3 Arleigh Burke Flight II Destroyer 3 Ticonderoga Class Cruisers 2 Sea Hunter Autonomous ASW Ship 1 Sea Fighter LCS 5 Silorsky ASW Helicopter
Sub Hunter Group 3:
3 Arleigh Burke Flight II Destroyer 3 Ticonderoga Class Cruisers 2 Sea Hunter Autonomous ASW Ship 1 Giuseppe Garibaldi-class ASW Carrier 15 AS332 Super Puma ASW Helicopter
Sub Hunter Group 4:
3 Arleigh Burke Flight II Destroyer 3 Ticonderoga Class Cruisers 2 Sea Hunter Autonomous ASW Ship 1 Independence Class LCS 5 Silorsky ASW Helicopter
Sub Hunter Group 5:
3 Arleigh Burke Flight II Destroyer 3 Ticonderoga Class Cruisers 2 Sea Hunter Autonomous ASW Ship 1 Independence Class LCS 5 Silorsky ASW Helicopter
An additional 25 Sayeh Naval Drone (clone of ScanEagle), with ranges of up to 100 km, will be launched to help in the detection of enemy submarines.

Hotamah Phase II

After the nuclear strike which would end Israel’s nuclear arsenal, which would last in the order of minutes, followup strikes would be ordered on their airbases as a horde of UAR Aircraft begin dropping JASSM and SEAD munitions on Israeli air defense in the area, targeting aircraft believed to be nuclear capable while still on the ground.
With UAR Air Defenses featuring quantum radar technologies obtained from China, and the UAR’s newest aircraft featuring advanced stealth suites and EW, it is hoped that the enemy’s air defenses would be promptly suppressed and enemy aircraft that do manage to take off shot down. Operating the Arrow 3 as an ABM, the David’s Sling as an air defense system, and the iron dome as an anti-rocket system, the Israelis have a decent air defense system… for the 2010s.
Extensive use will be made of EW aircraft to scramble enemy defenses during the attack, as well as simply strength in numbers as the Israelis cannot hope to intercept the large barrage of missiles fired from Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Gaza, the air, and the Mediterranean sea at the same time 5 F-16CJ ELINT will be used for this purpose in addition to the 2 EC-130 ELINT aircraft mentioned earlier.
The UAR will also fire 20 conventional Mudafi’ missiles, designed to counter the Arrow III, the schematics for which were generously provided by our allies in Laurentia. Combined with further tomahawk strikes on airbases and air defenses, as well as mass JASSM strikes and artillery barrages where applicable, the airbases and the air defenses presumably deployed at the [following sites]() will be destroyed, hopefully with much of the IAF as well. Emphasis will be placed on the early destruction of Nevatim Air base due to the presence of F-35s in that airbase.
The UAR has deployed a total of 180 5th generation aircraft, aircraft that are more advanced than the F-35 which defeated the F-15 with 20:1 odds. With experience in Iran, the UAR’s capable fighters will attempt to destroy much of the Israeli Air Force while they're still on the ground following the first wave of coordinated SEAD strikes on enemy air defense systems.
Israeli air bases will also be hit by a further salvo of 100 Tomahawk missiles each while the SEAD strikes are ongoing. Continued suppressive fire from Hezbollah and Hamas missiles will further augment the chances of the more sophisticated missiles hitting their mark.
Fortifications in the Golan Heights as well as Lebanon and the West Bank of the Jordan river will be struck in subsequent strikes and neutralized.
Aircraft deployed:
Once Phase 1 is complete and the Israeli air defense network is suppressed, the 580 aircraft deployed will assist with CAS operations and will bomb enemy supply lines.
The above aircraft will be supported by the Turkish deployment of F-16s that would perform similar strike operations, as well as friendly B-21 bombers from friendly Laurentian bases.

The UAR currently operates several satellites such as the Yaogan series which can be used to determine the bulk of Israel’s positions and bases prior to the attack.
In the initial attack, the Jobaria MLRS systems will provide firepower to demolish much of Israel’s fortifications in the Golan heights, feigning an attack from the Syrian side. However, knowing that the Syrian side is the most fortified compared to the Lebanese side, the UAR’s main northern advance will come from Lebanon. The intention is to pin down as many Israeli troops in the Golan Heights as possible while sending troops pouring southwards towards a line established from Haifa to Tiberias. Cutting off the bulk of the Israeli troops that would eventually run out of supply, the offensive would hopefully see the Golan and much of the Galilee fall to the UAR.
In the Golan Heights, extensive use of Nazir UGVs and Heydar Autonomous Swarm Vehicles will be used to combat minefields. Controlled from a distance, and with support from drones, the vehicles would be able to clear minefields with a minimal loss of life. The Jobaria strike, each of which fires 240 missiles per salvo, will assist in the destruction of minefields and defenses in the area. One Jobaria is said to cover an area of 4 km2, 8 would cover far more. The Golan contingent will represent 2/5ths of the total force, with 3/5ths being deployed to Lebanon. The UNFIL will kindly be asked to leave/step aside.
The Arabs in this section, which make up 53% of the population, will be encouraged to rise up, and Arab localities will be given small arms via airdrop. Seeing as they are actively discriminated against, and saw their holy sites destroyed, they would be more than willing to assist the UAR in liberating their homeland. Of the 700,000 Arabs in the territory, it is expected that some 70,000 would assist. They will be used to police the area and maintain the occupations of villages and towns liberated by UAR forces. This includes the Golan heights where a large number of Israeli troops would be stationed.
UAR forces boast a multitude of drones, partially deployed by S.A.U.D drone vehicles (ie a successful version of the Dakotan slaughterbot project) which release swarms that can be used to provide full battlefield awareness to soldiers via their personal helmet augmented reality HUDs. This would drastically reduce the cost of urban warfare and when combined with the larger UCAVs and UAVs flying overhead, helps integrate air, land, and sea combined firepower.
Extensive use of the UAR’s superior artillery and aerial intelligence will be used to target armored columns and harass enemy supply lines, ensuring that the UAR is well supplied in comparison to the Israelis. Close air support from helicopters as well as support air strikes from the aircraft deployed to the skies will help speed up the advance.
Furthermore, the UAR’s experience in urban warfare, owing to its abilities in the Syrian, Lebanese, Saudi, and Iranian wars will provide its professional army with an edge over the conscription based Israeli army who’s dated combat experience is largely based on waving guns at unarmed protestors and Palestinian children.

Operating over 50 bridges, and with air cover from Jordanian based air defense systems, the UAR will cross the Jordan River with three main thrusts, north, central, and south, which would be of equal size. This will involve the destruction of Israeli forces on the other side of the river through mass artillery. With what can only be described as the largest artillery barrage in history the entirety of the West Bank of the Jordan that is fortified by Israel will be struck by 471 Artillery units in addition to salvos fired by 50 MLRS systems with salvos of 3600 rounds per strike. This will be supplemented by air strikes from UCAVs and friendly aircraft.
In the north, defined as the West Bank to the Golan Heights, troops will attempt a push forward with similar tactics to that mentioned in the previous section towards Umm Al-Fahm to Nazareth. The pressure put on the Golan front will pin down troops that do not wish to forgo the high ground, as the unexpected large bridge crossing would occur. Once again, urban areas will be dealt with using the UAR’s drone tactics. 2/5ths of the Jordanian force will be deployed here. In the West Bank, the objective in sight is Jerusalem, as troops will attempt to seize much of the West Bank with support from artillery and air units. Liberated Palestinians who would be more than willing to fight will be provided with AKM rifles and shall act as auxiliaries. In the West Bank, with a population of approximately 4 million people (estimate based on 2%), at least 400,000 men would be willing to join. The destruction of the holy sites would see nearly every eligible man join the fight, and as such 400k is extremely conservative and a figure of closer to 2 million would be likely. The West Bank should already be in open revolt given the actions at Al-Aqsa, and as such the advance would be facilitated by Israeli troops being largely bogged down by the fighting . Friendly units in the region will work to sabotage Israeli military positions and supply lines and shall assist the advance, particularly in Jerusalem proper. 2/5ths of the Jordanian force will be deployed here.
Once the troops reach Jerusalem, special care will be taken to prevent the destruction of additional holy sites, and prevent Israel from destroying sensitive Holy sites important to Arabs such as the Church of the Holy Sepulhcre and the St. James Cathedral. Jerusalem’ population, which is 38% Arab despite Israeli ethnic cleansing, will be instrumental to assisting the UAR’s advance.
In the south, along the Negev Desert, troops will establish a land connection to Egypt by Seizing Eilat. The Negev is sparsely populated, and relatively open, allowing large armored units to be targeted from the skies and by missile. Urban combat is similarly less of a concern as the towns are notably smaller, and easier to place under martial law. UAVs and UCAVs will be used extensively to destroy armored columns, as the battle becomes one of range and maneuvering. Friendly Bedouins, Muslims who make up 25% of the Negev’s population, will be used as local auxiliary units, with some 20-30k out of the 400k strong population (estimate based on 1%) willing to assist. With 1/5th of the Jordanian force deployed here, the objective is to push forward and control Highway 40 (Line from Eilat to Beersheeba to the West Bank) by attacking from the east.
Once again, given the range of the UAR’s air defense systems in Jordan, the troops should be reasonably protected against Israeli incursions as the Quantum Radar batteries should be able to easily pick up the few F-35s that may have survived the original blast, and most certainly the F-16s that survived.

Air Defense

The UAR boasts some of the tightest air defense systems in the world, with numerous layers of Radar tested specifically against the type of aircraft Israel is expected to deploy with successful tests. The Quantum radar within the chinese designed, UAR produced HQ-90 ABM and Air Defense System provides the UAR with protection against stealth aircraft and ballistic missile threats within 600 km [Analogous to an upgraded S-500]. The Ramah-II Quantum Systems provide 100 km of coverage [Analogous to an upgraded Patriot] and protection from cruise missiles and stealth aircraft. The LPD-I laser point defense batteries provide laser point defense within 20 km against smaller munitions. Additionally, THAAD, and Patriot batteries have been deployed across the country as well as HQ-19 batteries, integrated with the quantum radar suites elsewhere.
While the UAR already has a vast array of air defense systems deployed, it shall be deploying additional systems to key sites including:
Each site will be protected with 3 HQ-90 Batteries, 2 Patriot Batteries, 2 Ramah-II Batteries, and 1 LPD-1 Batteries. 2 THAAD Batteries will be placed at Medina, Damascus, and Beirut and 1 THAAD Battery will be placed in Baghdad.
This layout ensures that cruise missiles fired from the mediteranean will have ample time to be detected and intercepted by the Ramah-II batteries designed specifically for this purpose, with multiple layers of security should a missile fail to be intercepted. With each HQ-90 battery being able to intercept and track up to 20 missiles at a time within 3 seconds of firing, each deployment should theoretically be able to protect against the entirety of the Israeli nuclear arsenal which is estimated at 80-120 nuclear weapons. With 60 HQ-90 systems deployed, as well as redundancies and overlapping coverage, the UAR should be able to intercept anything that Israel may have been able to save.
The UAR has not forgotten its allies, as it has already deployed 5 HQ-90 Quantum ABM/ADS Batteries, 10 Patriot-3 Batteries in the above cities, 30 LPD-1, and 15 Ramah-II in Amman, Irbid, Ma’an, Ajloun, and Russeifa. Jordan’s location between Israel and much of the UAR means that these systems would intercept missiles headed for the UAR as well. The Egyptian deployment similarly consists of 5 HQ-90 ABM Systems,10 Ramah-II ACM Batteries, and 10 LPD Laser Point Defense Batteries deployed to Alexandria, Asyut, Cairo, Aswan, and Port Said.
To further improve interception chances, 10 KJ-3000 AWAC, 6 Boeing E-3s, and 2 Saab 2000s will be used to provide round the clock airborne warning and control to track potential hostile airborne threats.
Lastly, the Arleigh Burkes currently deployed in the Mediterranean theatre are equipped with an AEGIS SM-2 system that would be capable of intercepting missiles fired from the Mediterranean sea within range. This provides yet another layer of protection from enemy missiles.
Note that the deployment of batteries in Lebanon, Jordan, and Egypt, allow for the UAR’s air coverage to include the entirety of Israel greatly affecting the enemy’s abilities to field aircraft.

Naval Deployment

The naval deployment intends to neutralize Israel’s submarine based nuclear arsenal by deploying various “Sub-hunter Groups” that would utilize intelligence about submarine positions in the relatively shallow Mediteranean (compared to the open sea). These groups would neutalize the submarines and then work towards eliminating the Israeli surface fleet, be it in port or in the water. The bulk of the force will be in the mediteranean, with Sub Hunter Group 3 clearing the Straits of Tiran prior to moving back to the Meditereanean.
Sub Hunter Group 1:
3 Arleigh Burke Flight II Destroyer 3 Ticonderoga Class Cruisers 2 Sea Hunter Autonomous ASW Ship 1 Sea Fighter LCS 5 Silorsky ASW Helicopter 1 Los Angeles Class Submarine
Sub Hunter Group 2:
3 Arleigh Burke Flight II Destroyer 3 Ticonderoga Class Cruisers 2 Sea Hunter Autonomous ASW Ship 1 Sea Fighter LCS 5 Silorsky ASW Helicopter
Sub Hunter Group 3:
3 Arleigh Burke Flight II Destroyer 3 Ticonderoga Class Cruisers 2 Sea Hunter Autonomous ASW Ship 1 Giuseppe Garibaldi-class ASW Carrier 15 AS332 Super Puma ASW Helicopter
Sub Hunter Group 4:
3 Arleigh Burke Flight II Destroyer 3 Ticonderoga Class Cruisers 2 Sea Hunter Autonomous ASW Ship 1 Independence Class LCS 5 Silorsky ASW Helicopter
Sub Hunter Group 5:
3 Arleigh Burke Flight II Destroyer 3 Ticonderoga Class Cruisers 2 Sea Hunter Autonomous ASW Ship 1 Independence Class LCS 5 Silorsky ASW Helicopter
An additional “Fleet Destroyer” Group which would destroy the Israeli surface fleet while the other groups hunt for submarines, in port on on the water, the enemy’s ships will be destroyed. This will be made up of:
3 Arleigh Burke Flight II Destroyer 3 Ticonderoga Class Cruisers 2 Medina Class Frigates 3 Badr Class Corvettes
Extensive use of Naval UAVs such as the Sayeh Drone and the Fotros Drone will be used in eliminating the enemy’s naval capabilities. Munition drones, specifically, some 400 LJ-2 drones, will target Israeli warships during naval engagements to increase the odds of a direct hit. Aircraft mentioned in previous sections, once air superiority is achieved, will assist in dropping AshM munitions on the enemy.
Once the enemy’s fleet is destroyed, naval assets will provide shore bombardment support to attack Israeli Army positions.

2020.08.31 03:55 Acutepeach92 First time dating an Jordanian

Hey y’all. I’m kind of new with interracial relationship. I’m a white female who is dating a Christian Jordanian man.
I was curious if there was someone in my position that could give me some pointers. I feel like there a lot of boundaries I should know about.
Is it going to be a doomed relationship?
How do I know if he serious about a relationship with me?
Would it be weird if I tried to make Jordanian food for him to show that I’m interested in his cultural?

Hi! I'm Lebanese, and raw meat (kibbeh, kafta, liver) is normal in our culture. I recently started dating a Jordanian and it just got me curious if Jordanians eat raw meat too? I don't want to ask him yet in case he finds it weird haha.

2020.08.10 17:51 1C1538 Does the Quran &/or Islamic culture violate Western Judo-Christian and Secular Humanistic values?

I saw this question online and wanted to add my thoughts to it.
According to the Quran Muslim men have the legal right (Islamic law) to beat their wives in certain conditions after other methods have failed. This verse is found at Quran 4:34.
Quran 4:34, Mohsin Khan: Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has made one of them to excel the other, and because they spend (to support them) from their means. Therefore the righteous women are devoutly obedient (to Allah and to their husbands), and guard in the husband's absence what Allah orders them to guard (e.g. their chastity, their husband's property, etc.). As to those women on whose part you see illconduct, admonish them (first), (next), refuse to share their beds, (and last) beat them (lightly, if it is useful), but if they return to obedience, seek not against them means (of annoyance). Surely, Allah is Ever Most High, Most Great.
The bold are mine for ease of context.
Muhammad the founder of Islam once beat his wife (Aisha). He hit her chest and that caused her pain.
Sahih Muslim Book 4 Hadith 2127: Muhammad b. Qais said (to the people): Should I not narrate to you (a hadith of the Holy Prophet) on my authority and on the authority of my mother? We thought that he meant the mother who had given him birth. He (Muhammad b. Qais) then reported that it was 'A'isha who had narrated this: Should I not narrate to you about myself and about the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him)? We said: Yes. She said: When it was my turn for Allah's Messenger (Peace be upon him) to spend the night with me, he turned his side, put on his mantle and took off his shoes and placed them near his feet, and spread the corner of his shawl on his bed and then lay down till he thought that I had gone to sleep. He took hold of his mantle slowly and put on the shoes slowly, and opened the door and went out and then closed it lightly. I covered my head, put on my veil and tightened my waist wrapper, and then went out following his steps till he reached Baqi'. He stood there and he stood for a long time. He then lifted his hands three times, and then returned and I also returned. He hastened his steps and I also hastened my steps. He ran and I too ran. He came (to the house) and I also came (to the house). I, however, preceded him and I entered (the house), and as I lay down in the bed, he (the Holy Prophet) entered the (house), and said: Why is it, O 'A'isha, that you are out of breath? I said: There is nothing. He said: Tell me or the Subtle and the Aware would inform me. I said: Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be ransom for you, and then I told him (the whole story). He said: Was it the darkness (of your shadow) that I saw in front of me? I said: Yes. He struck me on the chest which caused me pain, and then said: Did you think that Allah and His Apostle would deal unjustly with you? She said: Whatsoever the people conceal, Allah will know it. He said: Gabriel came to me when you saw me. He called me and he concealed it from you. I responded to his call, but I too concealed it from you (for he did not come to you), as you were not fully dressed. I thought that you had gone to sleep, and I did not like to awaken you, fearing that you may be frightened. He (Gabriel) said: Your Lord has commanded you to go to the inhabitants of Baqi' (to those lying in the graves) and beg pardon for them. I said: Messenger of Allah, how should I pray for them (How should I beg forgiveness for them)? He said: Say, Peace be upon the inhabitants of this city (graveyard) from among the Believers and the Muslims, and may Allah have mercy on those who have gone ahead of us, and those who come later on, and we shall, God willing, join you.
The bold are mine for ease of context.
The Quran allows violence between men and their wives. Muhammad hit his wife (violence). In the Muslim community men can beat their wives. Here is a statistics on Domestic Violence in the Muslim World.
Nearly 90 percent of Afghan women suffer from domestic abuse, according to the United Nations Development Fund for Women. Despite that, there are less than a dozen shelters like this one in Afghanistan, usually run by non-governmental organizations. Abusers are rarely prosecuted or convicted, and most women are afraid to say anything. "Their mothers are beaten by their fathers. They're beaten by their fathers, by their brothers. It's a way of life," said Manizha Naderi, director of WAW.
Statistics in Iran show that 66% of Iranian women, at the beginning of the marriage have been at least physically abused once. Some forms of physical abuse that occur include: biting, bondage, imprisonment in their own home, scratching, hair pulling, and even starving.
A recent report by the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) registered 139 cases of violence against women in the northern region of Kurdistan in the second half of 2008 alone. It said 163 women were killed as a result of domestic violence in Kurdistan in 2009. Experts suggest the number is less than 5 percent of the real estimates.
91% of university students polled by the Jordanian Human Right Center approve of wife beating. An earlier study by another organization found out that a majority of WOMEN also supports the right of a husband to beat the wife
Launched in January 1999, the [Women's Empowerment] project first established a research team, trained by Dr Abdo, which in turn began training community leaders on gender-based research methods. They have used these skills to interview a representative sample of 120 women from refugee camps, villages, and cities in the Gaza Strip to determine the incidence of gender-based violence. The preliminary results are alarming: half of the women interviewed to date have been victims of violence. "Violence against women in Gaza basically means domestic violence," says research consultant Aitemad Muhanna. "Women are beaten by their husbands, beaten by their fathers, and even beaten by their brothers." Women are beaten for not fulfilling traditional roles — such as cooking, cleaning, or tending to their appearance — to a husband's satisfaction. Other abuses include harsh insults, sexual abuse among family, and marital rape.
A study published in June 2006 in the Journal of the Pakistan Medical Association, based on interviews with 300 women admitted to hospital for childbirth, said 80 percent reported being subjected to some kind of abuse within marriage. At times, the violence inflicted on women takes on truly horrendous forms. The Islamabad-based Progressive Women's Association (PWA), headed by Shahnaz Bukhari, believes up to 4,000 women are burnt each year, almost always by husbands or in-laws, often as “punishment” for minor “offences” or for failure to bring in a sufficient dowry. The PWA said it had collected details of nearly 8,000 such victims from March 1994 to March 2007, from three hospitals in the Rawalpindi-Islamabad area alone.
Wife Beating in Islam
The Quran, the founder of Islam Muhammad and the Muslim community allow and practice wife beating.
Family violence is illegal in the Western world. If a man beats his wife in any form or context, that man will be guilty of a crime. Such inhumanity is fully in violation of Western Judo-Christian and Secular Humanistic values.

2020.07.29 01:52 globalwp [NEWS] Qassim Habash Addresses the Crowd

The "State" of Israel...
A state built on deception, murder, and genocide. In the years prior to the flood, the years of prosperity, our people were subjected to countless years of subjugation, enslavement, and murder. An entire nation dating back to prehistoric times was uprooted by the Zionist colonists who seized our lands and slaughtered our people.
The Palestinian people fought to protect our lands, but were defeated. We were betrayed by Britain in 1948, by then again in 1956, and yet again in 1967. We were betrayed by the Egyptians in 1974, and by our own leadership in 1993! Our enemies would stop at nothing to spill Palestinian blood. For centuries in exile, our people fought for their right to return to their homeland. Those in the captured west bank resisted numerous attempts to take whatever land remained. Those in the Galilee fought for their political rights in an "allegedly" democratic state. A state who's nature was seen in the floods.
The Palestinian people were slaughtered following Israel's attack on its neighbors. The Palestinian refugees and Arabs in Jordan were massacred and starved by the fascist Zionist menace in an atrocious act of genocide They have attempted to fight and kill the Palestinian people, then turned their attention towards the Jordanians and the Egyptians of Suez. We managed to gather our forces and flee to Matrouh, a land of plenitude, preparing for the great return home. To avenge the genocide of our people and to restore our lands to their rightful owners.
Today, the Israeli people turn their attention against the peoples of the free world, calling upon them to bend the knee to Israeli domination for the "privilege" of using what is rightfully Egyptian waters, accessible to all. This protection racket has no place in the free world and the Mediterranean should not suffer the same colonization and oppression that our people have suffered. Thus far, Israel has:
The Israelis claim that they no longer wish to expand, but they said the same in 1922 when they claimed a "Jewish cultural home" which ended in the removal of over a million Palestinians from Palestine in 1948. They claimed to be satisfied by the partition plan, yet did not hesitate to attempt to seize Sinai in 1956, seizing it in 1967 along with the West Bank. They claimed to be a peaceful state, yet violated peace agreements with Egypt and Jordan to seize Sinai and the East Bank in Yom Kippur. There is no indication that these claims will end anytime soon. They will continue to expand and encroach on all free nations until the entire region is murdered and replaced by Zionists. They do not seek peace, but domination, as the straits crisis has shown.
Today, the sons and daughters of the Palestinian and Arab Nation unite against this common foe. Most of us are Palestinian refugees, many of us, Libyan and Egyptian natives who support the cause of Arab Socialism and the cause of justice and freedom. Men of Matrouh, for too long have we been under the boot of Israeli occupation. For years we have toiled and worked to develop a prosperous nation capable of taking back the homeland. Today, we will do just that, or die trying. We are Muslims! Christians! Arabs! Berbers! Druze! Copts! and everything in between! Today we will take back the holy land and end the fascist ethnostate once and for all! Palestine belongs to all!
In the words of my Libyan Berber friend, Minister of Education Karim Bensaida, a famous proverb applies, "Anneruz La Naknu", "You may break our knees, but we will never bow down before you". We are free men, today, and forever. Onward sons and daughters of Matrouh. To freedom!

2020.07.22 14:12 dayintheday Feeling stuck 😅😅

Hey, I met a guy almost about a year ago. We are both on the same field, we have fun with each other, he is supportive, gentle, caring, loving, he met my family. 4 months into dating he casually lets me know that he couldn't have anything with me in the long end ( like marriage, kids, and his parents could never know about the relationship etc) because of his culture- He stated that he didn't let me know before because " he was scared that I would end this because of that ." He is Jordanian and I am Cuban - we both live in the US ( he states his family will never allow this relationship- and he would have to choose between me or his family.) I obviously don't want him to choose me over his family because at the end of the day that is his family. I will NEVER want to come in between that. I told him that this is painful to me because the longer we are together the more I fall in love with him and at the end there is no hope for a future together. He responded to this with : "why worry so much about the future.. the future is very uncertain, and to enjoy the present moment with each other." I told him it is hard for me because I keep thinking that maybe one day he will find someone from his culture and I'll just be left heartbroken and feeling stupid." He responded to this with: " He is not looking for anyone and he just loves me." He has been there for me so many times and shown me nothing but love and support. But should I stay in this relationship fully knowing that there is no future there ? Am I stupid for staying with someone that at the end of the day will never pick me and has let me know ?

2020.07.20 16:42 partypastor Sort of Unreached People Group of the Week - Syrians (Levant Arabs) in Syria

On a refugee kick for some reason this week (shut up other mods), just finished a great book called A New Odyssey, which was excellent. Because of that, I wanted to take the week to pray for Syrians. Many are refugees, but today we pray for those still in Syria for whatever reason. So, introducing the Syrians (Levant Arabs) of Syria!
How unreached are they?
So this is tricky. I'm super convinced that Joshua Project is wrong here but I don't have other data to back up my suspicions. So, according to JP, they are not technically unreached but minimally reached. They are supposedly 6% Christian, however they are only 0.16% evangelical [see bottom of post for link to definitions like evangelical in this specific context]. So what does that mean? It means that there are maybe 1 believer for every 16 unbelieving Syrians. Again, I am convinced its more complex and striated than that. Nevertheless, let's look at what the evangelical numbers are for a better idea. There is very roughly 1 evangelical believer for every 625 nonbelievenot open believer. I feel like this number may be much more accurate. That means out of their population of 11,000,000, there are roughly only 17600 evangelical believers.
There is some portions of Scripture translated in their language but not a full Bible.
What are they like?
As with all large people groups, this is just a broad overview and not meant to be taken to perfectly describe an entire people
The Levant Arabs typically live in villages located near fertile regions; but they can also be found near mountain foothills in less arid regions. Although they have settled in towns or villages, they have held on to their tribal affiliations.
The various tribes are ruled by sheiks (Arab chiefs that are considered to be experts in Islam and in relating to the outside world). Their fortress-like villages can be easily defended. Each house has windows on all sides and is built facing the outside of the village. All goods and persons passing through town are strictly controlled.
Individual dwellings tend to be elaborately decorated, flat-roofed homes called "town houses." Lime wash and brickwork are used around the windows as a form of artistic design. The rooms usually have some type of carpeting, and when entering the house, one must leave his shoes at the door. The walls are lined with mattresses and cushions to sit on and lean against. A main reception room and a kitchen are located on the top floor. The flat roofs are used by the women for drying laundry.
Social life is very important to Arabs. They like to share a daily coffee time by sitting on the floor and drinking coffee from cups without handles. Their diet basically consists of wheat bread and porridge made with boiled meat or chicken.
Despite Islamic teachings, the reality of different classes of Arabs still persists. The type of clothing worn has become one of the determining factors. Levant tribesmen dress differently than other villagers and can be easily recognized. The women wear veils both in town and at home. Boys show that they are becoming men by changing their headgear and wearing daggers.
In spite of the fact that some Muslims are allowed to have up to four wives, most marriages among the Levant Arabs are monogamous. In the past, all marriages were arranged by the parents; however, it is becoming more acceptable for young people to choose their own mates. Young girls are considered ready for marriage by age nine.
In recent years, many of the Levant Arab nomads have settled into mountain villages where they now raise grains, vegetables, coffee, melons, dates, mangoes, and pomegranates. Domestic animals are kept to supply milk and eggs.
At the present time, there are only a few Christians within the Levant Arab community, with the largest number found among the Iraqi Arabs. Evangelization efforts among these tribes are challenging due to restrictions in many of the countries, as well as general antagonism towards Christianity. Prayerful intercession is the key to reaching them with the Gospel.

History Lesson
The Levant Arabs originally settled all over the Arabian Peninsula and later migrated to North Africa. Today, several hundred thousand Levant Arabs live along the northern edges of the Arabian Desert. They are spread from Israel to Kuwait and as far east as Iran. "Levant" is a broad term that includes several groups of Arabs: the Jordanian, Palestinian, Iraqi, Chaldean, and Syrian Arabs.
Arabs from the Arabian Peninsula are considered to be the original Arabs. The Arabian culture was developed by tribes of nomads and villagers who lived in the Arabian Desert for many centuries. It was also from there that Arab migrations began, eventually leading to the expansion of the Arab world.
The Levant Arabs have had a close association with Islam throughout much of their history, and today, nearly all of them except for the Jewish Arabs are Muslims. The two main branches of Islam in the region are the Shi'ites and Shafiites. Most Levant Arabs speak an Arabic language called Arabiya, with varying local dialects. Others speak an Arabic language known as Mashriqi. Joshua Project
What do they believe?
Almost all Levant Arabs are Muslims. Islam is a religion of works that is based on five basic "pillars." (1) A Muslim must affirm that "there is no god but Allah, and Mohammed is his prophet." (2) He must pray five times a day while facing Mecca. (3) He must give generously. (4) He must fast during Ramadan, the ninth month of the Muslim year. (5) He must try to make at least one pilgrimage to Mecca in his lifetime.
Islam has greatly influenced the lives of the Levant Arabs. To preserve their people, they are only allowed to marry those inside their own group. Levant Arab society is patrilineal, which means that inheritances are passed down through the males. In this system, boys inherit more than girls. Since children are considered a family's greatest asset, females are valued for their ability to bear children. Joshua Project
How can we pray for them?
Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. (Romans 10:1)

2020.07.08 05:56 assousa On the Front Lines: Middle Eastern Rivals Take Their Fight to Jerusalem

By James M. Dorsey

Already at the core of the Israel-Palestinian conflict, Jerusalem is emerging as yet another frontline in the struggle for regional hegemony in the Middle East. With its annexationist policies, Israel is backing Saudi and UAE efforts to counter Turkish activity in the city and weaken Jordan’s position as the custodian of Islam’s third most holy site.
Israel, with the backing of the Trump administration, may have full administrative control of Jerusalem but that has not shielded the city from becoming a fault line in one of the Middle East’s major divides that pits Israel, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates against Turkey, with Jordan caught between a rock and a hard place.
The rivalry has turned some of the city’s real estate, including a historic Muslim cemetery, and the Jordanian-controlled religious endowment that administers Islam’s third most holy site. into battlefields.
Jerusalem has emerged as a frontline against the backdrop of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s promise to annex parts of the West Bank captured from Jordan during the 1967 Middle East war.
Positioning itself as a leader of Muslim opposition to Israeli policy, Turkey has been vocal in its criticism of Mr. Netanyahu’s plans. In contrast to Turkey, the UAE and Saudi Arabia, while publicly warning against annexation, have signaled that it would not impact their cooperation with the Jewish state.
As if to underline that, WAM, the official UAE news agency, confirmed in recent days in a rare public acknowledgment that an Abu Dhabi technology company had signed a memorandum of understanding with two Israeli defense companies, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), on cooperation in coronavirus-related research.
Closer cooperation with Israel has, however, not translated into successful Emirati and Saudi efforts to garner Palestinian support and counter Turkish-led opposition.
The UAE hopes that the Emirates could position Mohammed Dahlan, a controversial Abu Dhabi-based former Palestinian security chief with close ties to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed, as a successor to aging Palestinian President Mohammed Abbas appear to have faded.
Instead, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shatiyyeh, a critic of the UAE’s coronavirus medical aid for Palestine, has emerged as a potential successor on the back of his handling of the pandemic and grip on economic issues.
Mr. Shattiyeh’s Palestinian Authority rejected the UAE’s coronavirus medical aid delivered to Tel Aviv airport on flights by Abu Dhabi’s Ettihad Airways, the first ever by an Emirati airline, because they were neither coordinated with the Palestinian government nor was it consulted.
UAE and Saudi efforts to counter Turkish efforts to don the mantle of Muslim leadership in countering Israeli annexation plans date back to Turkey attempting to take the lead when US President Donald J. Trump in 2017 recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and moved the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to the city.
The UAE and Saudi Arabia downplayed an Islamic summit convened at the time in Istanbul by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and failed to persuade leaders like King Abdullah of Jordan not to attend and send only lower level representatives.
The battle has since shifted to Jerusalem itself.
In the latest incident, Israel last month removed a plaque commemorating the contribution to the restoration of Jerusalem’s historic Yusufiye cemetery by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA).
The cemetery is adjacent to the city’s old walls and falls under the authority of the Jerusalem Islamic Waqf.
The Waqf is the Jordanian-funded endowment that administers the Harm al-Sharif or Temple Mount that is home to the Al-Aqsa mosque and the Dome of the Rock. It is also where Judaism’s two ancient temples once stood, according to Jewish tradition.
In response, Anadolu Agency, Turkey’s state-run news agency, published a Hebrew-language document purporting to be the license granting TIKA permission to place the plaque.
Cash-strapped Jordan has in recent months fended off Israeli-backed Saudi attempts to be granted representation in the Jerusalem Waqf on the grounds that Saudi King Salman is the custodian of Islam’s two holiest cities, Mecca and Medina. The Harm al-Sharif is the faith’s third holiest shrine.
Israel Hayom, the Jewish state’s most widely read newspaper, quoted an unidentified Arab diplomat as saying that Saudi funds were needed to counter Turkish influence in Jerusalem.
“If the Jordanians allow the Turks to operate unhindered at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, within a matter of years their special status in charge of the Waqf and Muslim holy sites would be relegated to being strictly ‘on paper,’” the diplomat was quoted as saying.
The renewed Saudi attempt builds on a donation of $150 million USD in support of Islamic heritage sites announced by King Salman immediately after Mr. Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
The donation dwarfed millions of dollars in Turkish bequests to Islamic organizations in the city.
Raed Daana, a former director of preaching and guidance at Al-Aqsa Mosque Directorate, said at the time that Saudi Arabia had secretly invited Palestinian Muslim dignitaries in a bid to garner support for a Saudi power grab.
In a rare move, Iyad Madani, a Saudi national, visited Jerusalem and the Harm al-Sharif in 2018 in his capacity as then secretary-general of the Jeddah-based, 57-nation Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)
Kamal Khatib, an Israeli Palestinian Islamist leader, asserted that Mr. Dahlan, the UAE-backed Palestinian politician, working through local businessmen, had tried to acquire real estate adjacent to the Harm al-Sharif. Mr. Khatib said Palestinian real estate owners had refused to sell.
An Al Jazeera investigation suggested, however, that the UAE successfully funded acquisition of property in Silwan on the outskirts of Jerusalem’s old city that had since been transferred to Israeli settlers.
Turkish activity in Jerusalem is sparking concern not only because of Israeli, Saudi, and Emirati opposition to Turkey’s geopolitical ambitions and support for the Muslim Brotherhood but also because it, unlike the two Arab states, can exploit the fact that it maintains diplomatic relations with the Jewish state.
This has facilitated the activities of TIKA that serves as a tool to enhance Turkish influence across the globe. It has also allowed thousands of Turkish supporters of Mr. Erdogan’s Justice and Democracy Party (AKP) to visit Jerusalem as pilgrims.
Turkey’s Directorate General for Religious Affairs (Diyanet), that is part of Mr. Erdogan’s office, listed the Al-Aqsa Mosque in 2015 as a site for the umrah, the lesser Muslim pilgrimage.
Israeli authorities have accused Turkish nationals of instigating Palestinian protests, including on the Harm al-Sharif.
Yossi Melman, a prominent Israeli military and intelligence affairs reporter, reported last month that Israel was monitoring recently increased TIKA activity in Jerusalem that included financial and food donations as well as the funding of a coffeeshop, hostel, and cinema.
“Turkish activity in East Jerusalem is certainly creating tension, both with Saudi Arabia and Jordan,” said Gallia Lindenstrauss, a scholar who is writing a book on Turkish-Israeli relations.
Ms. Lindenstrauss cautioned that Saudi (and Emirati) efforts would not halt Turkish activity in Jerusalem. “I expect that activity to continue,” she said, ensuring that Jerusalem is likely to remain in the forefront of the Middle East’s geopolitical divides.
From a Palestinian perspective, there may be a silver lining in a heightened Turkish interest in Jerusalem at a time when Palestinians have few options to thwart Israeli annexation.

2020.07.05 20:18 LearningIsListening A not-so-brief rundown of letters D-F in Jeffrey Epstein's 'Little Black Book'

Below is a rundown of letters D-F of Epstein's contacts. Last year, I wrote about letters A-C. You can check that out here ( There are some misspelled names. Epstein entered their names like this.
I have bolded some of the more interesting connections and information, but there could be much more that I overlooked. I hope something here strikes an interest in someone and maybe we can get more investigations out of this. Please, if you know anything more about any of these people than what is presented here, post below. I am working off of the unredacted black book found here:
d’abo, Henri & Tatiana: John Henry Erland d’Abo is the grandson of the 9th Duke of Rutland (more info on what these titles all mean can be found here: Tatjana is his wife. Henry is the chairman of Wilton Payments Ltd, a private company that helps with financial intermediation. He and Christopher O’Neill are the primary shareholders of the company. O’Neill is Tatjana’s half-brother, a British-American financier, and husband to Princess Madeleine, Duchess of Hälsingland and Gästrikland, a daughter of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden.
d’abo, Mrs. Jennifer: British entrepreneur who passed away in 2003. d’Abo was once married to Peter Cadbury from the family of the famous chocolate company. Peter did not work for the company, but he and Jennifer d’Abo had a son together. Their son, Joel Cadbury, became owner of the Groucho Club, a watering hole often frequented by famous people. Three years after Cadbury sold the club, their website became the center of a child pornography scandal (link to story:
D’Alessie, Carman: This name turned up no results, however, we can safely assume that this is actually Carmen D’Alessio, the international nightlife guru who helped spawn Studio 54 and other famous clubs. She is a party legend with countless celebrity ties.
d’Arenberg, Prince Pierre: Family lineage can be traced back 1000 years. European royalty. Extremely wealthy not because of his ties to nobility, but because his mother, Margaret Bedford, was an heiress to Standard Oil (Exxon).
d’Uzes, Jacques De crussol: The 17th Duke of Uzes. Not much else found on him. Margaret Bedford married into his family shortly after her divorce with Prince Charles Auguste Armand d’Arenberg, father of Prince Pierre d’Arenberg.
Dabbagh, Amr A.: A wealthy businessman/investor from Saudi Arabia. Dabbagh recently faced corruption charges but settled with the Saudi Arabian government. Has ties all around the world, as he is a member of and/or serves/served on the boards of the World Economic Forum, London Business School, Cleveland Clinic, Jeddah Economic Forum, Harvard Institute for Social and Economic Policy in the Middle East, etc.
Dahl, Sophie: ‘90s-’00s model-turned-author and maternal granddaughter of famous author Roald Dahl (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, James and the Giant Peach, etc.) Dahl has been seen in photos with Ghislaine Maxwell.
Darrin, Drake: Not much information found. Darrin runs an investment group out of Greenwich, Connecticut. Lived about a mile away from Epstein in NYC.
Dartmouth, William: The 10th Earl of Dartmouth. Member of the European Parliament from 2009-2019. Became a stepbrother of Princess Diana when his mother embarked on a 2nd marriage with Diana’s father, John Spencer.
Davies, Jeff: Most likely refers to the current CFO for Legal & General Group. Davies was once a senior partner at Ernst & Young.
Davies, David & Linda: Sir David Davies is a wealthy banker and businessman with deep connections. A family friend introduced him to David Rockefeller back in the ‘60s, which helped him get his start. Linda, daughter of a Chinese-Malaysian tycoon, is his second wife. They were married for over 20 years but are now divorced.
Davis, Michael: A current partner at N3 Media, Davis has had many jobs. He started out working at CAA, one of the top agencies in the world. Check out this list of celebrities and athletes that they represent ( Davis then went on to produce movies and TV shows before transitioning to digital media.
Day, Nick and Heather: Not much to be found on these two. There are several articles that speak of their ranch in Kenya. Apparently, it is a fairly popular spot where people stay to get some rest and solitude.
de Andrade, Marcelo: An international banker (not the serial killer) who lives within one mile of Epstein’s mansion in NYC. de Andrade was married to Lisa Bjornson, a successful banker and higher-up at J.P. Morgan Securities back in the ‘90s.
de Baecque, Patrick: de Baecque has his hands in online news media ( in France. de Baecque was named Director of Sales and Operations at Dolead in 2017. Dolead is a company that is involved with online marketing.
de Cabrol, Milly: A high-end interior designer based out of NYC.
De Cadenet, Alen: Alain de Cadenet is one of Epstein’s many Formula One contacts. Someone here probably knows more about de Cadenet, but he used to be a racecar driver and now works for ESPN and the Speed Channel as a host.
de Clermont-Tonnerre, Hermine: A French princess who used to have a penchant for partying. The only daughter of Charles Henri, 11th Duke of Clermont-Tonnerre, Hermine was one of 500 guests invited to Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother’s 100th birthday back in 2000. Hermine got in a motorcycle crash a month ago that put her in a coma.
De Georgiou, Anouska: A former British Playboy model who claims that Epstein groomed and raped her as a teenager when she met him in the 1990s. Her experience with Epstein is detailed in this article ( She speaks about how Epstein was able to lure her into the life as a young girl.
De Soto, Fernando: Very difficult to pinpoint. Best guess is that this is the Head of Real Estate at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Madrid, Spain. I could be wrong, but this is the one that made the most sense.
Dedieu, Jean & Paulette: Nothing found.
Del Bono, Luca: Co-founder of Quintessentially Group, a hospitality group that specializes in leisure, travel, and tourism.
Dell, Adam: Brother of Michael Dell (Founder of Dell Technologies and 27th ranked richest person in the world in Forbes’s BS rankings that discount the elite families). Adam is a venture capitalist who has a baby with Padma Lakshmi.
Deluca Dina & Fouard Chartuuni: Fouad Chartouni is the president of Kensico Properties, a real-estate holding company in New York. Chartouni and his brother own the Lowell Hotel in New York. Madonna lived there for nearly a year after breaking up with Sean Penn. Dina Deluca is Chartouni’s wife. She used to work as an assistant in film and television, but now focuses on her DDC28 brand of bath and beauty products.

Derby, Ros & Jonathan: No info found.
Di Vita, Charlotte: Best known for her handcrafted teapots, di Vita started off as a volunteer who helped raise funds to help poor people, most notably in Kenya, Thailand, and Brazil. She helped locals grow food and even helped build 3 schools (37 teachers, 1100 students) through a charity, Trade plus Aid, in Bawku, Ghana, in 1995.
Dickenson, Debbie: Supermodel and actress. Sister of the more famous Janice Dickinson.
Dickinson, Janice: One of the most successful models of the ‘70s and ‘80s, Dickinson has been occasionally labeled as the first ever supermodel. Opened her own modeling agency in 2005. Ironically, she accused Bill Cosby of raping her back in 1982 and wrote about it in her memoir. When called to the stand during Cosby’s trial, Cosby’s lawyer pointed out the differences between Dickinson’s testimony and her account of the incident in her memoir. Dickinson said that her accusations of Cosby raping her while under oath were the absolute truth, while she took “poetic license” with some of the details in her memoir.
Dietrich Marc Antoine and Cath: Baron Marc-Antoine de Dietrich is a businessman. He resigned as director of Vossloh Cogifer in 2011.
Dietrich, Paul & Laura: Paul is Chief Investment Officer of Fairfax Global Markets LLC. They manage investments for private investors, retirement funds, and private institutions.

Dori: Dori Cooperman is a socialite blogger who is friends with Alex von Furstenberg, Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, among others. Daughter of Edwin Cooperman, former Chairman of Travelers Bank Group. Used to work for the famous publicist, Lizzie Grubman, who has represented Jay-Z, Britney Spears, and the Backstreet Boys. Cooperman is known for getting into trouble due to issues with drugs and alcohol.
Dorrit: Dorrit Moussaieff is an Israeli jewellery designer, editor, and businesswoman who married into royalty. Dorrit was the First Lady of Iceland from 2003-2016 after marrying President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson in 2000. Although Moussaieff claims that Epstein only had her phone number because they “lived on the same street in London sometime between 1978 and 1983,” the Daily Mail published a picture of her and her husband, President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson, with Ghislaine Maxwell.
Doss, David & Christy Prunier: David Doss has worked as producer and/or executive producer on NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw, NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, Oprah in Africa, Primetime (with Diane Sawyer), Anderson Cooper 360, and Live PD. Doss now serves as senior VP of news programming for Al Jazeera America. Christy Prunier is a former Hollywood exec and founder of the Willa brand of beauty products.

Driver, Minnie: Famous movie and television actress.
Dubb, Anthony V.: Dub is an investment banker and founder of Indigo Capital, LLC.
Dubbens, Peter: Peter Dubens is a British Internet entrepreneur and investor. Founder of Oakley Capital.
Dubin, Glen: Glenn Dubin is a billionaire hedge fund manager. There is a great article detailing Dubin and his wife’s relationship with Epstein here: Summary of the article: Dubin was the first one accused by Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre. Rinaldo Rizzo, Dubin’s chef, testified that sexual activities occurred between Dubin and a 15-year-old girl, which led to him and his wife quitting as personal chefs of the Dubins. Dubin’s wife, Dr. Eva Andersson-Dubin, dated Epstein for a long time before she married Dubin. The couple was so close with Epstein that even after Epstein was convicted in 2008 and officially a registered sex offender, they invited him to Thanksgiving dinner and wrote a letter to his probation officer that they trusted him around their children, who were all minors at the time. Multiple sources say Epstein was actually their children’s Godfather, but a spokesman for the couple denies it. Glen Dubin and Epstein helped each other with their business ties, as well. Dubin also had other ties with Epstein (personal friends with Les Wexner and others). Dubin and his wife are definitely major players in the Epstein saga.
Dubin, Louis & Tiffany: Louis Dubin is a real estate developer specializing in upper-middle class condominiums. Has sold luxury condominiums to the likes of Charles Bronfman, who has ties to the Clintons, Wexner, and whose family were in the NXIUM cult. Tiffany Dubin is the stepdaughter of the now deceased billionaire, A. Alfred Taubman, the owner of Sotheby’s, a famous auction house in NYC that often hosts parties for the rich and famous.
Dubin, Peter: Epstein is/was a moron. This is the same Peter Dubens listed just above.
Duchess of York: Former wife of Prince Andrew. Mother of Princess Beatrice and Eugenie. God knows the stories she could tell. Rumor has it her toes still look like prunes to this day.
Ducrey-Giordano, Francisco: Likely the owner of General Vegetables out of Italy. No further info found.
Duesing, Paul: An interior architectural designer who has worked on luxury and personal resorts all around the world. Duesing claims Epstein tried to hire him to work on Epstein’s home on Epstein’s private island back in 2002, but Duesing declined because he didn’t like Epstein. Says he doesn’t even know how Epstein got his number in the first place. Perhaps it was Duesing’s ties with the royal family. He tells stories of getting the Queen Mother drunk, being close with Lord and Lady Lloyd, working on the home of Mohamed Al-Fayed, father of Dodi, Princess Diana’s boyfriend who died in the car crash with her.
Duke of York: Prince Andrew, the toe-sucking pedophile (allegedly), himself. Photographed with victims, Epstein, and Maxwell many times over. His reputation has been completely crushed.
Dunbar Johnson Miranda & Steph: Stephen Dunbar-Johnson is the president, International of the New York Times Company. He oversees the strategic development of the Times Company’s international businesses. He also spent 12 years working at The Financial Times. Miranda Dunbar-Johnson is Stephen’s wife. She serves on The Paris Committee, which “plays a crucial role in increasing Human Rights Watch’s visibility in France.” David de Rothschild is on the honorary committee.
Dunne, Griffin: An actor, producer, and director best known for his role as Jack in An American Werewolf in London (1981).
Dunne, Philip & Dominice: Philip Dunne is a Conservative Party politician who has been a Member of Parliament since 2005. Domenica is his wife.
Duong, Anh: An artist, actress, and model best known for her self-portraits and her portraits of art collectors and influencers. As a model, Duong has worked for Dolce & Gabbana, Christian Dior, Donna Karan, Karl Lagerfield, Moschino, Yohji Yamamoto, and others.
Durso Luigi: Luigi d’Urso was a noble and Italian railroad executive who died in 2006. His grandfather was the 9th Duke di Cassano. His mother was the great-granddaughter of George Clymer, one of the founding fathers of the U.S. and signee of both the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. d’Urso was also married to French designer and model Ines de la Fressange.
Duthie, John & Charlotte: John is primarily a television director based out of London. Duthie also won some poker tournaments against some of the world’s best players in the early 2000s. His wife, Charlotte played a big role in Sir James Goldsmith’s political career as a member of the Referendum Party back in 1997. Goldsmith received 3.5% of the vote in Putney, a constituency located in London.
Dzhabrailou, Umar: Umar Dzhabrailov is a Russian politician and advisor to Sergei Prikhodko, the current First Deputy Head of the Russian Government Office and Deputy Prime Minister of Russia in Dmitry Medvedev’s Cabinet. Dzhabrailov was rumored to be romantically linked to Naomi Campbell, supermodel and one of the main suspects in Epstein’s underage sex scandal, in the early 2000s. Dzhabrailov, a supremely wealthy businessman, ran for president in 2000, garnering 0.1% of the vote as an Independent. Dzhabrailov was a partner in Russia’s Radisson Hotel along with American entrepreneur Paul Tatum. After their falling out in 1996, Tatum was shot and killed. Some think Dzhabrailov was responsible while others think he was set up.
Ecclestone, Bernie: A billionaire British business magnate and former chief executive of Formula One Group. Ecclestone has faced some minimal controversies for tax evasion, bribery, and saying that Hitler was a man who was “able to get things done.” Disgustingly enough, Ecclestone, at the age of 89, became a father to his first son, Ace, on July 1, 2020.
Eckon, Paul: Paul Ekon is an international investor and venture capitalist who allegedly fled South Africa in the mid-90s because he was being investigated for links to a gold-smuggling syndicate. Has strong ties to South Africa, including being a personal friend of former president, Thabo Mbeki.
Edsel, Lucinda: No info found.
Edwards, Andrew & Tracy: Unsure. There was an Andrew Edwards and Tracy Edwards on linkedin who have a background in finance, but it is not conclusive whether or not they are the ones listed here or if they are even married. There is also a Tracy Edwards who is a former British sailor who used to work as a Project Manager for Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) and now teaches children of Internet safety and online reputation. 2020.07.01 06:12 chickenwinggeek [EVENT][DIPLOMACY] The Interim Jewish State

Now that we have a place to settle and people willing to move there, we will like to sort of get a government and plan out our new cities. Since we are basically going to be building our cities from scratch, we get to take advantage of clear and conscious city planning buoyed by donor sources and no immediate need to make money. We will also make an interim government of Judea, to be led with Chaim Herzog as president and Yitzhak Rabin as prime minister. It is unclear what specifically they do as the extremely makeshift basic law we drafted up basically is a paraphrase of the British parliamentary system replacing the monarch with the president, though these are mostly powers only set in this document.
The first city will be centered around the port in Bubaque. It will be planned in the expectations that municipal areas might eventually take up the entire island. There aren’t many settlements of natives here, meaning that we can probably pay off the couple that may live where we will build (and we probably won’t even come across them if we are on the coast for now). It will be named New Jerusalem, just to remind everyone that our true home is still Israel.
The second city will be centered around the port in Carache. It will be named Ramat Ben-Gurion, in honor of David Ben-Gurion, an instrumental figure in Zionist politics, with the other purpose of taunting the Jordanians who consider him to be a not so nice guy. Again, doesn’t seem like many natives live there.
The third city will be centered around the port in Bolama. It will be called Bolama since we don’t want to rename literally everything in our new lands to Jewish names. It seems like there are actually natives living here. We will ask them to help build our city in exchange for pay, food, and a promise to not demolish their existing buildings. The city will be built near the port. If there are villages in the way, the city will simply sprawl around them under the assumption that they will disappear eventually and the appropriate plans can be enacted in their stead.
Even though we aren’t in much of a rush to build an economy, since we are still being financed heavily by Jewish people around the world and that will probably be our main income source for a long time even with the native economy, we will also begin setting up infrastructure around the uninhabited islands for tourism. These islands are very beautiful and biologically diverse, and with their small size and political stability, they offer a safe and cool opportunity for western tourists to see Africa’s wildlife and landscape without 200 mile safaris. We will also encourage the local fishing industry to blossom, since fish are also in abundance.
They will all be master planned from the ground up to ensure sustainability and efficiency. We will continue erecting makeshift tents so that they aren’t pressured to rush the planning process. Building codes will be designed to maximize building density in the city. These cities will be designed for extensive bicycle and public transportation use (not that we are hippies or anything or metagaming from the year 2000, it would just be very hard to buy cars for everyone on this island and these islands are super small), instead of massive roadways for cars that do not exist and probably never will exist. Of course there will still be roads, but they won’t be designed for massive usage nor will they come at the expense of public transportation or bicycle/pedestrian use. We invite American, Portuguese, and Spanish construction firms to start construction on this infrastructure, in order to create sustainable and long-lasting constructions. Grand synagogues will serve as the spirtual center of these cities, and one will be built immediately in each city.
Hopefully, these new projects will spur increased immigration to our isles. We will conduct another campaign for people to move here, contacting those same figures that gave us financial and political support earlier, as well as buying ads in Jewish communities around the world. This will be branded as a place without political persecution and a cultural homeland for the Jewish people. We also would like to request development aid from the United States as pity money. We will happily accept audits and inspectors to make sure that construction projects are actually being built with the money. A tentative date of 1952 will be set for our constitution to be written and elections set for our government. With whatever money we have left over from donors, we will start a sovereign wealth fund, since only so much money can be invested in our local economy.
In addition, we will officially make our armed forces. The Judean Defense Force will consist of an army/paramilitary segment, an air force (without planes for the moment), a navy, and an intelligence section, the Mossad that also doubles as a coordinator for whatever insurgency we have left in Palestine.
We would additionally like to inquire if Portugal can give up the islands of Jata and Pecixe for our lease. While they might not be part of the archipelago, they are close enough, are not visible inhabited beyond a couple of buildings, and will be defensible in the event of Guinea - Bissau independence.

2020.06.21 05:48 globalwp [DIPLOMACY] Baghdad-Amman Arab Federation Boogaloo

Bet you thought this would be about pan-Arabism didnt you?

Salam friends,
Iraq's National Institute of Water Resource Management has begun to perform studies about the state of water stress in the region and is watching Jordan in particular with great concern. Due to the choke-hold Israel has on your water supplies, we fear that our western neighbor will soon fall into a state of crisis. The Red Sea-Dead Sea pipline has appeared to have fallen through and as such, Jordan finds itself facing potential water insecurity. Luckily, we are here to help.
Iraq is willing to help pay for a $400m state of the art reverse osmosis facility near Aqaba, using cutting edge techniques, we hope that this will help set Jordan on a successful path and prevent over reliance on the (((enemy))), as surely your people oppose greater cooperation with CRIMINALS. Said facility will likely take 3 years to construct but would provide Jordan with some much needed water security. We would also further recommend wastewater treatment plants in Amman and Irbid and would be willing to provide expertise on the matter. On a similar note, we are willing to invite our Saudi friends to the conversation about Jordanian water resources to help contribute to ensuring that water scarcity in Jordan is a thing of the past.
On a similar note relating to dependence, Jordan is by no means energy independent. Iraq on the other hand has an abundance of natural gas that it could send to Jordan at very competitive prices. We would be willing to help fund a $500m pipeline project to Jordan should Jordan agree to a $9b gas deal to replace this controversial deal. While it is set to expire in 2035, Iraq would like to step up and replace them by this date.
We hope our Jordanian friends consider this request.

2020.05.27 20:12 Chazzyphant Fragments: A powerful craft store mogul, a controversial scrap antiquity, a MacArthur Genius Grant, and the fight over the "real" New Testament. Is a new discovery a fraud, overzealous academics wishful thinking, or real? An antiquity mystery

As any of you who recognize my user name, I really like mysteries around antiquities and art rather than missing people or murders. Especially with world events being what they are, we can all use a bit of a "palate cleanser" sometimes!
This one has a personal connection in a way. I was raised in a fundamentalist cult as a child and I had very little contact with the secular world. One of the few pleasures I had was receiving a new issue of "Biblical Archaeology Magazine" in the mail. I wanted to be an archaeologist when I grew up and thrilled to the idea of proving or deepening the details of my favorite Biblical stories and becoming a scholar and an explorer. The other shoe dropped early in the game when I realized science was a major part of being an archaeologist, something I have little natural aptitude for, but I still remain fascinated by all things ancient.
This mystery is around the finding of a papyrus that purports to be the "real" or oldest copy of the Gospel of Mark.
"On the evening of February 1, 2012, more than 1,000 people crowded into an auditorium at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The event was a showdown between two scholars over an explosive question in biblical studies: Is the original text of the New Testament lost, or do today’s Bibles contain the actual words—the “autographs”—of Jesus’s earliest chroniclers?
"On one side was Bart Ehrman, a UNC professor and atheist whose best-selling books argue that the oldest copies of Christian scripture are so inconsistent and incomplete—and so few in number—that the original words are beyond recovery. On the other was Daniel Wallace, a conservative scholar at Dallas Theological Seminary who believes that careful textual analysis can surface the New Testament’s divinely inspired first draft.
They had debated twice before, but this time Wallace had a secret weapon: At the end of his opening statement, he announced that verses of the Gospel of Mark had just been discovered on a piece of papyrus from the first century.
As news went in the field of biblical studies, this was a bombshell. The papyrus would be the only known Christian manuscript from the century in which Jesus is said to have lived. Its verses, moreover, closely matched those in modern Bibles—evidence of the New Testament’s reliability and a rebuke to liberal scholars who saw the good book not as God-given but as the messy work of generations of human hands, prone to invention and revision, mischief and mistake.
Wallace declined to name the expert who’d dated the papyrus to the first century—“I’ve been sworn to secrecy”—but assured the audience that his “reputation is unimpeachable. Many consider him to be the best papyrologist on the planet.” The fragment, Wallace added, would appear in an academic book the next year."
Side note: Go down the Gospel of Mark Translation Rabbit Hole with this great article Grok this quote:
"The New Testament, after all, is not a store of ancient wonders like the Hebrew Bible. It’s a grab bag of reportage, rumor, folk memory, and on-the-hoof mysticism produced by regular people, everyday babblers and clunkers, under the pressure of a supremely irregular event—namely, the life and death and resurrection of Jesus Christ."
(Gives you some insight as to what the fight is over).
Glitter and Glue Money
But as so often happens with the revelation of a newly discovered antiquity that conveniently aligns with the beliefs of powerful entities or ruling political parties, there was big money moving levers behind the scenes:
"Though he didn’t mention it onstage, Wallace had recently joined something called the Green Scholars Initiative. The program was funded by the Green family, the evangelical billionaires who own the Hobby Lobby craft-store chain. It gave handpicked scholars access to the thousands of artifacts the family had collected for their Museum of the Bible, a soaring $500 million showplace that would open a few years later near the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
Wallace’s ties to the Greens made it easy for observers to connect the dots: The Mark papyrus had to be one of the manuscripts the Greens had bought for their museum. And the papyrologist who worked out its first-century date had to be the world-renowned classicist Dirk Obbink. The Greens were known to have hired him as a consultant during their antiquities buying spree."--- Atlantic magazine
Hobby Lobby has had its share of dubious, and even downright illegal, dealings in their frenzied quest to build the Museum of the Bible.
"Beginning in 2009, representatives of Hobby Lobby were warned that artifacts they were purchasing were likely looted from Iraq. The purchases had been made for the Museum of the Bible, which they were sponsoring. In 2018, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York directed Hobby Lobby to return the artifacts and pay a fine of US$3,000,000. Hobby Lobby returned over 5500 items in May 2018. Among these, were nearly 4000 tablets supposed to be from the lost city of Irisagrig which had been delivered to Hobby Lobby marked as "tile samples."
In April 2020, the centerpiece of the Museum of the Bible's collection, the fragments of the Dead Sea Scrolls, were declared to be fakes.
After its authenticity was questioned, the museum removed the display of a miniature bible which a NASA astronaut had purportedly carried to the moon.
In a further blow to the Museum of the Bible's credibility board chairman, Steve Green, who is also president of the Hobby Lobby stores announced the museum will be returning over eleven thousand artifacts to Egypt and Iraq. The collection includes thousands of papyrus scraps and ancient clay pieces. Manchester University papyrologist Roberta Mazza stated that the Green family "poured millions on the legal and illegal antiquities market without having a clue about the history, the material features, cultural value, fragilities, and problems of the objects."
The "Gilgamesh Dream Tablet," containing part of the Epic of Gilgamesh, was discovered in Iraq in 1853, sold by the Jordanian Antiquities Association to an antiquities dealer in 2003, and sold again by Christie's auction house to Hobby Lobby in 2014 for $1.6 million. The auction house lied about how the artifact had entered the market, claiming it had been on the market in the United States for decades. In September 2019, federal authorities seized the tablet, and in May 2020, a civil complaint was filed to forfeit it." --Wikipedia
Rummaging for Treasures
"A tall Nebraskan with a mop of sandy hair, Obbink was in his mid-40s in 2001 when the MacArthur Foundation awarded him a half-million-dollar genius grant. His technique for reassembling papyrus scrolls carbonized by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in a.d. 79 was a feat of three-dimensional puzzle solving.
Sought by universities and cultural institutions the world over, Obbink taught at Columbia before leaving, in 1995, for Oxford, home to the world’s largest collection of manuscripts from the ancient world: half a million papyri that a pair of young Oxford scholars had excavated in Egypt a century earlier. Obbink’s post as a general editor of the collection—the media sometimes called him its “director,” though officially no such title exists—made him one of his field’s most powerful figures. Wallace had not overstated his qualifications.
But years passed with no news of this “first-century Mark,” as the phantom manuscript came to be called. There was no book in 2013, no exhibit when the museum opened in 2017. Wallace’s blog filled with hundreds of comments. “It has been 5 years,” readers complained. “Hurry up!” One man simply quoted from the Book of Proverbs: “Expectation postponed makes the heart sick.”
Yet in 2018, when Obbink finally published the fragment, it made certain hearts even sicker. The Greens would see their dreams of a first-century gospel dashed. The University of Oxford would be thrust into the news in a labyrinthine case of alleged antiquities theft, cover-up, and fraud. And one of the most illustrious figures in classics, though protesting his innocence, would find himself at the center of a trans-Atlantic investigation.
Dirk obbink had rummaged for diamonds in the rough since his boyhood in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 2002, the year after he was awarded the MacArthur prize, his mother, Dorithy, told Smithsonian magazine that as a child her son had haunted thrift shops and the town dump, coming home with “a bunch of junk.” His fascination with other people’s trash carried into his years in New York, where he took his daughter dumpster diving.
That papyrology called to him was perhaps little wonder. Papyrus was the ancient world’s paper, a disposable medium made of reeds harvested along the Nile. Its 1,000-year heyday as a writing surface coincided with the Greco-Roman era, the fall of the pharaohs, the birth of Christianity, and the advent of Islam. Obbink taught students how to mine the brownish, jigsaw-puzzle-like fragments for lost works of Greek literature and philosophy.
Deciphering the texts is so laborious—and oversight so strict—that just 1 percent of the fragments have been published since their discovery. As a decoder of crumbling, half-vanished manuscripts, Obbink was “an absolute master,” his friend David Sider, an NYU classicist, told me. (The Atlantic reporter and writer)
One night in November 2011, two American evangelicals walked up a flight of stairs in a Gothic bell tower on Christ Church’s central quad. Scott Carroll and Jerry Pattengale had been friends since their days together in a different Oxford—the city in southwest Ohio, where they each earned a doctorate in ancient history, at Miami University. Both had taught at Christian colleges and advised well-to-do collectors before Steve Green, the president of Hobby Lobby, hired them to lay the intellectual foundations for a national Bible museum.
Carroll was put in charge of acquisitions, a post that played to his self-image as an impresario called by God to summon texts from the farthest reaches of the globe. His cellphone’s ringtone was the theme from Indiana Jones. A promotional photo, captioned great scott!, depicts him in shorts and a fedora, swinging through the jungle on a rope.
The more sober-tempered Pattengale was named executive director of education; his job was to establish the Green Scholars Initiative, recruiting world-class academics to mentor the students the Greens would invite to research their fast-growing collection.
At the top of the stairs that evening, Dirk Obbink opened a black door and let the two men into his office, a suite of rooms with a kitchen, a bathroom, and a pair of mummy masks that gazed at visitors from across a pool table. By then he’d been on the Hobby Lobby payroll for about a year. For Carroll, he vetted manuscripts that dealers across the world were clamoring to sell to the Greens. For Pattengale, he would teach papyrology to Green Scholars at summer seminars.
They spent an hour discussing Obbink’s latest work. Then, as Carroll and Pattengale stood to leave, Obbink called to them, as if stopped by a stray thought. “Well, wait a minute,” he said. “I have something here you might be interested in.” He padded behind the pool table and opened a manila folder.
Inside, in plastic sleeves, were ancient pieces from each of the four New Testament Gospels. Obbink tweezed out a fragment of Mark—a small, hatchet-shaped papyrus with verses from the gospel’s first chapter—for his visitors to see. The shape and strokes of certain letters, he explained, were hallmarks of first-century handwriting. Obbink described the fragment as part of a “family collection” and, according to Carroll, “offered it for consideration” for Hobby Lobby to buy.
Pattengale felt momentarily paralyzed, while Carroll paced the room, delirious. Everything they’d worked on up to that point seemed to suddenly pale.
Go even further down the rabbit hole with this article written by Pattengale about this whole thing
"Like the Harry Potter “moving staircase” at Hogwarts, filmed across in the Bodley Tower viewable from Obbink’s window, what was to unfold over the next several years would seem illusory for outside scholars and became sensationalized in the press. The sudden appearance of these manuscripts was dizzying even for the experts and owners, temporary and otherwise."
When Pattengale flew home to Indiana the next day, “I told my wife, Cindy, ‘If this proves to be first-century, I may be involved in researching one of the most important pieces of the Bible ever discovered."
Undue Influence? A Patron's generosity seems to hold sway over a formerly neutral historian
"something happened in the presence of his [Obbink's] new patrons. He fawned over the Greens’ aspirations, writing to Scott Carroll in January 2010 that he looked forward “to the flourishing of your commendable undertaking.” He closed emails, as his new benefactors did, with the sign-off “Blessings.” And according to a devout former museum official, he bowed his head and prayed before meals in so “theatrical” a way that, even among evangelicals, he was “the most visibly pious person at the table.
Though it wasn’t publicly known, Obbink served as more than just an academic consultant to the Greens: Josephine Dru, a former papyrus curator for the Museum of the Bible, told me he was one of their biggest suppliers of papyri. From January 2010 to February 2013, Obbink sold the family more than 150 papyrus fragments—for a total of between $4 million and $8 million, according to a source who has seen the figures and described them to me as a range. (Jeffrey Kloha, the Museum of the Bible’s chief curator, didn’t dispute those numbers, but estimated a total closer to the low end of that range.)
Scott Carroll may have claimed that Obbink had “no agenda whatsoever,” but in fact Obbink had several. He was acting as a scholar, an adviser, and a seller: The first owed allegiance to the truth, the second to his clients, the third to his own bottom line.
Show me the Money: Is this just another case of plunder for profit?
"n early 2014, headlines appeared across the world: Obbink had discovered a pair of breathtaking new Sappho poems—on a piece of papyrus salvaged from a mummy mask. “For a couple of months, it was just me and a girl named Sappho—nothing between me and the text,” Obbink said on BBC Radio. “It was like being shipwrecked on a desert island with Marilyn Monroe.”
But Obbink declined to name the papyrus’s owner or to release its provenance paperwork. In a New York Times op-ed, Douglas Boin, a historian at Saint Louis University, called Obbink’s secrecy “disturbingly tone deaf” at a time of “catastrophic” looting in the Middle East. The next year, Christie’s produced a 26-page brochure offering the two Sappho poems for sale “by private treaty,” a transaction in which an auction house quietly approaches prospective buyers rather than hosting a public sale.
Obbink eventually told a convoluted tale about an anonymous London businessman who had bought cartonnage at a Christie’s auction in 2011, dissolved it, and brought extracted papyri to Obbink, who discovered the two Sappho poems. The businessman then put some 20 small scraps that had also been pulled from the cartonnage—“being not easily identified … and deemed insignificant”—on the market. By chance, an intermediary dealer sold them to the Green Collection, where Obbink picked them out as yet more Sappho.
Brent Nongbri, a Christian-manuscripts scholar, has identified no fewer than six different accounts of provenance put forward by Obbink, Carroll, or Bettany Hughes—a British broadcaster who has featured Obbink on several of her TV and radio shows. None of those accounts included the one detail witnessed by a large group of people: Simon Burris’s identification of the smaller Sappho pieces in Baylor’s crowded classics-department lounge in 2012."
"In november 2015, a video appeared on YouTube, filmed on a smartphone from the pews of a church in Charlotte, North Carolina. From the pulpit, where he was addressing a conference of conservative Christians, Scott Carroll spoke of seeing a Gospel of Mark from the first century “at Oxford University at Christ Church College … in the possession of an outstanding, well-known, eminent classicist … Dirk Obbink,” who thought the papyrus might date to as early as a.d. 70—the same year most scholars think the gospel was first composed.
This was no longer Daniel Wallace telling a vague, secondhand story on a debate stage. This was an eyewitness with names, dates, and places. The video so unnerved the Egypt Exploration Society that it began a review of all its unpublished New Testament papyri. It learned that one of Obbink’s researchers had found a small fragment of Mark in its collection in 2011, a piece photographed by a curator as early as the 1980s but never before identified.
Was this the discovery that Wallace had announced at the University of North Carolina—and that Carroll had confirmed in the church video nearly four years later?
Confronted by the EES, Obbink admitted to having a fragment of Mark from Oxyrhynchus in his office and showing it to Carroll. But he insisted that he’d never said it was for sale. The EES instructed him “to prepare it for publication as soon as practicable in order to avoid further speculation about its date and content.”
Obbink could no doubt foresee the consequences of publication: The moment images of the fragment became public, Pattengale, Carroll, and Wallace would recognize the papyrus as the one he’d allegedly offered to the Greens half a decade earlier. They would notice he’d published it in the official book series for EES papyri—exposing it as never his to sell. Perhaps most distressing, they’d see Obbink’s new dating: In a book of serious scholarship, he’d assign their supposed “first-century Mark” to the late second or early third century, making it far less remarkable."
"In june 2019, Michael Holmes, who replaced Pattengale as the director of the scholars initiative, flew to London to meet with leaders of the Egypt Exploration Society, who remained skeptical that Obbink, whatever his other shortcomings, might have sold Oxyrhynchus papyri.
Over lunch at a private club, Holmes pulled out a purchase agreement between Hobby Lobby Stores Inc. and Dirk Obbink. Co-signed by the Oxford professor on February 4, 2013, it showed that Obbink had sold the company not just the Mark papyrus, but also fragments of the Gospels of Matthew, Luke, and John. In the contract, Obbink describes the manuscripts as his personal property, vows to “ship/hand carry” them from “Oxford Ancient,” and dates all four to a historically unprecedented “circa 100 AD,” making each a one-of-a-kind worth millions."
Stolen....and maybe fraudulent fragments
"When EES officials saw the contract, Holmes told me, “any uncertainties they had evaporated very quickly.” They banned Obbink from the collection.
The Museum of the Bible began sending to the EES images of every papyrus the Greens had purchased—from any seller. Comparing them against the society’s own photographic inventory, EES officials spotted 13 of its biblical fragments. From written descriptions provided by Hobby Lobby, it identified four more: the gospels that Obbink’s sales contract dated to the first century, though none, the EES said, were in fact that old.
Fifteen of the EES’s fragments had been sold to the Greens by Obbink, for more than $1.5 million, a source who has seen the figures told me. Among them was the Romans scrap Carroll pretended to pull from a mummy mask at Baylor in 2012.
The Greens bought the two other EES fragments from the family business of Alan Baidun, a Jerusalem dealer who appeared to have acted as a middleman for Obbink. (Baidun did not answer multiple emails and phone calls, but has previously denied wrongdoing through a spokesperson.)
The EES soon discovered another half-dozen of its papyri in the collection of a wealthy California collector named Andrew Stimer, who had previously sold the Greens four Dead Sea Scrolls that the Museum of the Bible later deemed forgeries. (Stimer disputes the museum’s forgery findings.)
The practice of dissolving mummy masks in search of manuscripts had been all but abandoned before Scott Carroll and Dirk Obbink announced astonishing finds.
Stimer, who leads an evangelical ministry called Hope Partners International, said he purchased two of the fragments in 2015 from a “Mr. M. Elder of Dearborn, Michigan,” a seeming match for Obbink’s business partner. When scholars saw images of those fragments—from Romans and First Corinthians—they realized the Museum of the Bible owned adjoining pieces from the same leaves. Someone appeared to have cut up scriptures that, according to EES photos, had been intact at Oxford. “Mr. M. Elder” had sold one pair of cuts to Stimer, and Obbink had sold the other to the Greens. (Mahmoud Elder declined to comment, invoking what he called a “client non-disclosure agreement.”)
For most of the stolen papyri, the EES’s corresponding inventory cards and photographs were also missing. The thief, it seemed, had sought to cover his tracks by erasing evidence of the papyri’s existence. In a collection of some half a million pieces, perhaps they’d never be missed.
But the thief miscalculated: Copies of the inventory existed in various locations, including University College London.
Drawing on such backups, the EES said it has so far identified 120 papyri that “appear to be missing, almost all from a limited number of folders.” In what might well be British understatement, it warned “that a few more cases may emerge.”
On November 12, the EES reported its findings to the Thames Valley Police. On March 2, the police detained Obbink for questioning on suspicion of theft and fraud. As of press time, no charges had been filed.
"In march 26, Steve Green announced that he was giving 5,000 of his papyri to Egypt. It was an admission that virtually every papyrus in his collection lacked sufficient evidence of not having been stolen, looted, or acquired by other improper means. For the same reasons, he said, he was repatriating 6,500 clay relics to Iraq—on top of the 3,500 Iraqi antiquities Hobby Lobby had surrendered to settle a 2017 federal smuggling case.
Green and his museum have sought to portray themselves as chastened by their early stumbles and determined to make amends—both by coming clean about their failures and by making institutional changes. “I trusted the wrong people to guide me,” Green said, “and unwittingly dealt with unscrupulous dealers in those early years.”
Scholars have praised the latest reforms. But Green’s efforts to deflect blame have rung hollow in some circles.
In 2010, early in his collecting blitz, Green had attended a presentation that Hobby Lobby commissioned from Patty Gerstenblith, a DePaul University professor who is one of the world’s foremost experts on cultural property law. “I warned him,” Gerstenblith told me, “and he proceeded anyway.” With hundreds of millions of dollars of spending power, Green had all the leverage to ask hard questions about provenance—and to order investigations—before handing his money over to dealers. But he never did.
In the Obbink case, Green and his representatives have cast themselves as the unsuspecting dupes of a mastermind. Green told me he’d failed to see the conflict in Obbink’s dual roles as adviser and seller because of his “stellar reputation and standing in the scholarly community.” He added, “I would never intentionally buy anything forged or stolen.”
Green has returned the stolen Oxyrhynchus fragments to Oxford, and in 2018, he told me, Hobby Lobby asked Obbink to refund the money it had paid him for the four “first-century” gospel fragments."
"Until Oxford, the EES, or the police reveal more, many questions will remain unanswered. But in the eyes of some devout critics, the last chapter of this saga will be written by a higher authority"---Atlantic article
This is mostly taken from a longreads article that has a LOT more information about how Obbink got caught up in a shady process called "dismounting" that allows for fraud---essentially soaking the wrappings off mummies and pretending that they are fragments of historical important artifacts such as poems by Sappho, and the network of thieves and shady dealers through which artifact smuggling and forgery thrives. A great rabbit hole to go down especially if you are interested in archaeology and artifacts. Hope you enjoy!

2020.05.15 15:05 autotldr Jordanian king warns of "massive conflict" if Israel annexes parts of West Bank

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 35%. (I'm a bot)
King Abdullah II of Jordan said in an interview with the German magazine Der Spiegel that Israeli annexation of parts of the West Bank "Will lead to a massive conflict with Jordan."
Why it matters: This is the harshest statement by the King regarding possible annexation of parts of the West Bank by Israel.
The King stressed that all parties in the region should focus now on fighting the coronavirus together rather than dealing with unilateral annexation of the West Bank."Leaders who advocate a one-state solution do not understand what that would mean. What would happen if the Palestinian National Authority collapsed? There would be more chaos and extremism in the region," he said.
The Trump administration does not view the new Israeli government's July 1 deadline to begin the process of annexing parts of the West Bank as a "Do or die" date, a senior U.S. official told me.
What's next: Jordan has been lobbying the U.S. and EU member states for the last several weeks to discourage the new Israeli government from moving forward on annexation of the West Bank.
Jordanian foreign minister Ayman Safadi made several phone calls in the last few days to his counterparts from France, Spain and other countries in the EU and asked them to take steps to deter the new Israeli government from annexing parts of the West Bank..

2020.05.11 16:17 partypastor Unreached People Group of the Week - The Bedouin people in Jordan (30 Days of Prayer Week 3)

Welcome to week 3 of 30 Days of Prayer! I made u/CiroFlexo pick a country this morning and he promptly forgot all the countries in the Middle East but eventually got back to me with Jordan, so without further ado, meet the Bedouin people in Jordan! But first a little housekeeping.
First I want to remind you that some of us are fasting every Monday to fast alongside our fellow image bearers that in their time of fasting for the wrong reasons, we can fast and petition our Lord for their salvation.
Second, I want to encourage you to follow 30 Days of Prayer on instagram. Im sure they have something on Facebook or Twitter too but idk. Anyways, they post a different Muslim people group every day to pray for.
Third, just some reminder facts about Islam and Ramadan.
Islam makes up 24% of the worlds population. Thats estimated to be 1,830,983,000 people. That means nearly 1/4th of the world will be participating in Ramadan. Out of that, 85% of those people are considered unreached. That is just staggering.
Called Ramadan (or Ramazan), Muslims fast during this month from the moment when it first starts to get light until sunset. They fast as an act of faith and worship towards God, seeking to suppress their desires and increase their spiritual piety. Fasting together as a worldwide community (Ummah) affirms the brotherhood and equality of man before God. Fasting is one of the Five Pillars of the religion of Islam and one of the highest forms of Islamic worship. Abstinence from earthly pleasures and curbing evil intentions and desires is regarded as an act of obedience and submission to God (Allah is the Arabic word referring to “the one God”) as well as an atonement for sins, errors, and mistakes. The name Ramadan is derived from the Arabic word ramida or ar-ramad, denoting intense scorching heat and dryness, especially the ground. From the same word there is ramdaa, meaning “sunbaked sand” and the famous proverb kal mustajeer minar ramadaa binnar — to jump out of the frying pan into the fire. Some say it is so called because Ramadan scorches out the sins with good deeds, as the sun burns the ground. 30 Days of Prayer
Here is my post about 30 Days of Prayer for the Muslim World if you want to recap fully.

Now, introducing the Bedouin People in Jordan

How Unreached Are They?
The Bedouin people in Jordan are 0.01% Christian. That means (that I have to do math...) that out of their population in Jordan (1.4 million) there are probably only around 140 believers. That is one believer for every ten thousand unbeliever!
They do have portions of Scripture translated in their language but they do not have a full New Testament even.
What are they like?
As with all large people groups, this is a broad generalization and not a necessarily accurate picture of all the peoples in this people group
Bedouin life is generally pastoral, raising camels, sheep, goats and cattle. They normally migrate seasonally, depending on grazing conditions. In winter, when there is some rain, they migrate deeper into the desert. In the hot, dry summer time, they camp around secure water sources. Bedouins define themselves as members of tribes and families. People are divided into social classes, depending on ancestry and profession. Passing from one class to another is relatively feasible, but marriage between a man and a woman of different classes is difficult.
Traditionally, the Bedouin's home, the tent, is divided into three sections by curtains: the men's section, the family section and the kitchen. In the men's area, guests are received around the hearth where the host prepares coffee on the fire. This is the center of Bedouin social life. Tea is served as a welcome drink; coffee is usually prepared after the meal and is the last drink before the guest leaves. The serving of food and drink represents the generous hospitality of the host. The men pass the evening trading news and discussing their animals. Separated from them by a curtain, the women gather in the family area and kitchen along with their small children to bake bread and prepare the main meal. A dinner of rice and chunks of mutton or lamb are then served to the gathered guests.
Women occupy a very important position in Bedouin society. Not only do they raise the children, herd the sheep, milk the animals, cook, spin yarn and make the clothes, but they also weave the cloth that constitutes the tent. The Bedouin men gather around the fire, sharing stories and sipping coffee. They might discuss falconry, the saluki greyhound and Arabian stallions, all animals the Bedouins are credited with raising, as well as other matters of importance to the tribe. Traditionally, one of the men recites poetry or sings. To mark the end of the evening, the host burns incense in a mabkhara (incense burner) passing it to each of his guests to inhale and fan their clothes. Poetry has been a central cultural form of expression for the Bedouins throughout their history. In early centuries of Islamic history, Bedouin poetry represented the ideal standard for other literary achievements, as well as for the Arabic language. The traditional foods of the Bedouin are dairy products and meat. Bedouins sell and barter products in order to obtain agricultural food from sedentary peoples.
Bedouin society has a strict code of honor which dictates proper behavior for all members, including children. Because of the demanding nature of the Bedouin lifestyle, children are expected to assume a considerable amount of responsibility in order to help their families survive. Although modernization has changed the Bedouin lifestyle somewhat, emphasis is placed on teaching children to carry on traditional ways of life, and the advancement of modern technology is not considered important to children's education.
Modern societies have made the traditional Bedouin lifestyle less attractive since as it is demanding and often dangerous. Because of that, many tribes have settled in urban areas. It is not uncommon to see a young Bedouin building a house and living in it; however, his parents will pitch their tent in the garden, where they will live very happily until the end of their days. Governments have a strong tendency to regulate Nomadic lifestyles since it is only then that taxation works. Providing services for the people also works best in an urban setting. Today, the Arab world has one of the highest rates of urbanization in the world.
In modern Arab states and Israel, Bedouins are faced with challenges in their lifestyle, as their traditional Islamic, tribal culture has begun to mix with western practices. Men are more likely to adjust and interact with the modern cultures, but women are bound by honor and tradition to stay within the family dwelling. They therefore lack opportunity for advancement. Problems facing the Bedouin population of Israel include dispossession and the struggles connected to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Some live in townships, while others either live as squatters on land they claim as their own, or in the original 1948 refugee camps. Joshua Project
History Lesson
Bedouins traditionally live a nomadic lifestyle, spreading from the Persian Gulf to the Atlantic Ocean, and from the borders of Turkey to Yemen. The word 'bedouin' comes from the Arab word 'Bedou' that means "desert dweller." Estimates say nomadic Bedouins constitute about one-tenth of the population of the Middle East. Joshua Project
What do they believe?
All the people groups this month are Muslim people groups
Islam's prophet Mohammed was born and raised in the Bedouin tribe of the Quraish. The Qur'an, first revealed to Mohammed, was later written and compiled in the Arabic language. The first converts to Islam came from the Bedouin tribes living in and around Mecca. Therefore, Islam is embedded and deeply rooted in Bedouin culture. Although there are pockets of Christians in Bedouin tribes, by and large the word Bedouin is synonymous with being a follower of Islam. Prayer is an integral part of Bedouin life. As there are no formal mosques in the desert, they pray where they are, facing Mecca and performing the ritual washing, preferably with water. Since water is not always readily available, they 'wash' with sand instead. Joshua Project
How Can We Pray for Them?
Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. (Romans 10:1)

2020.05.09 01:48 fyouk Hexagon Challenge : Part Six. Riding Off Into the Sunset.

Hexagon Challenge : Part Six. Riding Off Into the Sunset.
Precedently in Hexagon Challenge : Oceania, more Oceania, Asia, Africa, South America and Europe

Welcome to the final part of my Hexagon Challenge. As you'll see, the conquest of North America was pretty quick. But we'll take this as an opportunity to reflect on the career as a whole in this post.
Before I start, I want to thank everyone who've commented on any part, it really did good for my ego. One or two of you have also told me that they started their own Pentagon/Hexagon because of these, and that's fantastic. Best of luck to any of you out there !

Anyway, let's get into it.
I left a Bayern loaded with wonderkids that should be stacked for the years to come, and moved on to Mexico. Jobs in Mexico have a tendency to not get open very often - interesting ones at least - so I prepare myself to be patient. However, Mexico gets eliminated from the Copa America 2044 in the Quarters Finals, prompting the sacking of their 4-year manager. That turns out to be great news for me, as the federation would turn to the Mexican Premier League to get their new manager.
Upon seeing this, I immediately apply for the club he just left.
And that's how I ended up at the helm of Club América. A giant of Mexican football, having won the most domestic titles (19 at the date of my arrival) and already 10 continental titles, although the last was in 2027, almost 20 years ago at that point.
I was surprised when I met my team, as only 16 players were in that roster ! Not sure how that happened, but we would need some bodies to fill the room. Good news, we actually have a pretty chunky transfer budget of 35M to do exactly that. Perfect.
Because of that situation, I would not go for the big transfer, the star that would change everything, I simply could not afford it. I had to bring in a lot of players and in total that's 8 players that would arrive with the intent of getting solid minutes. The main focus were midfield and wingers.
Before I arrived, the club had already won the Mexican Supercup, and lost in the first round of the Leagues Cup, which is a sort of pre-Champions League if I understand correctly ? 8 Mexican teams and 8 MLS teams in a single elimination tournament. Anyway, we were out, so no continental football for me before the start of the actual Champions League in January, for which we were qualified.

The season started very well, and the objective of qualifying for Apertura Playoffs (so top 8 after 19 games) would not cause any problems.
Even thhough we were out of the Leagues Cup, we had the Campeones Cup to play. Sort of a North America Supercup, it is a game between the MLS champion and the Mexican League (or Supercup ?) Champion. Pitted against New England, we drew 1-1 but won the penalty shootout. A first trophy for me !
The rest of the first part of the season went well too, except that in the last 3 games, we could not score, dropping from 1st to 3rd in the standings.
We then could not score either in the Quarters Finals of the Playoffs, and would get out. Very disappointing, and a good opportunity to already qualify for next year's Champion League wasted.
Not much happens in the january transfer window, I don't feel we have gaping needs, and we don't have much money to do much anyway.
Our troubles with scoring would continue at the start of the Clausura though, and we achieve the incredible feat of 5 consecutives 0-0 ! With the last games of the Apertura, that's 10 games without scoring ! A more radical tactical change than the tinkering I've been doing is necessary.
And it'll prove effective, as we find the back of the net again.
These 5pts in 5 games have made a run at the top spot difficult, but our objective is still to qualify for the Playoffs, and that is still well in sight. We would indeed achieve it.
You can note that despite going more than a quarter of the period without scoring, we still have a decent Goals For number. Once again though, we would crash out in the first round of the Playoffs. Oh well ...

Now, for the actually interesting bit. The Champions League.
This is a weird one, I'll be honest. No Group Phase, only 16 teams in home/away ties. 4 from Mexico, 5 from MLS (4 USA and 1 Canadian), and 7 from Central America and the Caribbean.
Basically, if you're not in the only MLS - Mexico confrontation in the First Round, that's a freebie, the other leagues being very very weak.
And a freebie we got ! We got drawn against a team from Costa Rica. First leg away, and that's a 6-0 win for us. Complete rotation for the second leg, a small 2-1 win but more importantly, we're through to the Quarters.
That's where the hard part begins, as we're put up against Monterrey, another Mexican team. So far this season we've beaten them in the Supercup, but lost in the League. That would be verified in the first leg away, as their dominant defense rendered our offense ineffective, and a 25m semi-volley right into the top corner would even give them a 1-0 win. We were much better at home, went up 1-0 before half, and then got robbed of a second goal near the end because of an imaginary offside ! And a wonderful goal at that. Infuriating. 1-1 aggregate after 180 minutes, that means a penalty shootout, of which we come out victorious 5-4. Thank god we're not getting eliminated because of a blind ref.
After that I'm pretty surprised to find out I'm the last Mexican team in the competition, as the 3 others semi-finalists are MLS teams. And not even good ones ! At the time of the draw, they are respectively 9th, 9th and 11th (out of 13) in their conferences. i'm starting to feel good about this ...
First one up, Seattle. Oh fuck, they were the ones that booted us out of the League Cup earlier this year. But we're a better team now. Better indeed, as we beat them 3-2 in Seattle. Could've been worse for them, we really dominated and conceded avoidable goals. We rectified that with a 4-1 win at home to qualify for the Finale.
Real Salt Lake in the Finale. We start off well, but miss a penalty after 15 minutes in the first leg at home ! 10 minutes later however, we open the score. Huge relief for me. We even add up a second goal later, and win the first leg 2-0 at home, only allowing them to shoot 3 times. 2-0 is still a short lead though, the second leg won't be a walk in the park ... The first half of the second leg is pretty uneventful and we even score just after the break ! That means they now have to score 4 goals ! It's pretty much in the bag, given how bad they've been offensively. They score, we score again, and it ends up 2-1 for us. 4-1 aggregate, and CHAMPIONS OF NORTH AMERICA !!
That was fast. I didn't expect this to only last one season, but I'm not too mad either.

My career is now over, I have won the 6 prime continental competitions, I have conquered every corner of the planet, I have nothing more to accomplish in this world.
Quite fittingly, 2044/2045 is also the first season since I left where AS Dragon did NOT win the Tahitian League. We've gone full circle.

I have managed more than 1000 games, seen my 12 clubs score over 2100 goals and concede a third of that. I have led teams to 17 league titles and 34 cup titles, among which 11 continental ones as well as a Club World Cup. I am up to 8th in the Hall Of Fame.
I've failed miserably in some places, and have created dynasties in others (AS Dragon winning 24 consecutive league titles, Henan Jianye winning 9 of the 11 titles after my departure as well as a second Champions League, Sétif not being that successful in the league but winning a 2nd straight Champions League, Estudiantes winning 6 of the next 7 after I left ...)
And I have played this save for over 730 hours ...
My complete palmares (I'm not counting Supercups) :
